Volt League rolled on with a slate of action in Week 14. Here’s what went down on the pitch.

Frankfurt Athletic 3-4 Ghosttown Saints

Frankfurt came into this match looking for three valuable points as the end of the season approaches and they still sit at the bottom of the table. On the other side were the Saints who were looking to keep hot on the trail of the top teams to position themselves in a good spot come the playoffs. The game got started in the 11th minute with some pressure from the forward against the center backs of Frankfurt. The ball found its way to Presly C. and he finished a one-on-one situation against the goalkeeper. The advantage didn’t stand long as Frankfurt found the equalizer a few minutes later in the 17th minute after Jacobs was able to find a rebound in the box from a corner kick and put the ball in the back of the net over the head of the goalkeeper. In the 27th minute, Frankfurt turned it around after a beautiful counter. They only took three touches to go from their box to their opponent’s goal. Just as the half was coming to an end, the Saints found their equalizer to level things going into the break. Luis made a solo run down the left flank, and with no angle whatsoever, he managed to find a gap between the goalkeeper and the post to score. The second half started off with a literal bang. Luis, who had just equalized at the end of the first half for the Saints, took a chance from about 30 yards out and put the ball over the goalkeeper to give the 3-2 lead to the team in white. It was an absolute banger by Luis. To finish of the match with a bow, Luis got ball in the mid field in the 73rd minute. After a run into the box and leaving a few Frankfurt men behind, he put the ball in the back of the net to complete his hat trick. As the game was coming to an end, Frankfurt got one back with Andy catching a loose ball in the box and scoring in the 90th minute. Frankfurt tried to push for an equalizer but wouldn’t have enough time to steal a point from the Saints.

Week 15 will see Ghosttown Saints facing FC Seinfeld while Frankfurt will be taking on AC Juniors.

FC Seinfeld 4-3 International SC

The game opened with a quiet first half for both squads, with the Goats having more clear chances at goal than their opponents but they were not able to capitalize with their chances. Goals started rolling in in the 53rd minute. Mike Will laid off a ball to Joel, who took a left footed shot going across the body of the goalkeeper and put the ball out of his reach. In the 64th minute, the equalizer came when Sanchez got a rebound inside the box and didn’t hold back on his shot. Only three minutes later, Sanchez once again found another rebound, this time from the goalkeeper after a shot on goal from Hessler. Literally only a minute later, Sanchez took a shot from outside the box, when it looked like a cross was coming in. This made the goalkeeper run one way and the ball ended up going the opposite direction. In the 80th minute it was copy, paste. Sanchez grabbed another goal, this time from inside the box but almost a carbon copy of his previous goal. Seinfeld went from a 1-0 deficit to a 4-1 lead. Wilder got one back with a cracking shot, almost at point blank range to make it 4-2 in the 82nd. Quintero made the game 4-3 in the 83rd minute, and the last few minutes were well fought but it wasn’t going to be enough for the equalizer to come from Inter.

Inter will be taking on Night Watch this upcoming match day while Seinfeld will take on Ghosttown in what promises to be an entertaining match with both squads needing a victory to keep fighting for playoff spots.

Green Flag FC 5-4 AC Juniors

This was a match that a lot of people were looking forward to watching and the scoreline did not disappoint. The first half was an even one, ending 1-1. The goal from Green Flag came from M. Pham, who collected the ball feet away from the goal after a series of rebounds, and with one touch put it in the back of the net. F. Lazo got the equalizer right before the end of the half after taking a chance from outside the box. The goalkeeper wasn’t able to put his hands firmly enough to block the ball and it slipped through his fingers for the goal by AC Juniors. Makoni started the second half with a world class goal from the corner off the 18-yard box to the upper 90 corner of the goalkeeper. Only a few minutes later, in the 54th minute, Omar put a ball over the head of the back line of Green Flag and got another shot at goal. He wouldn’t throw away the opportunity to get his brace. A hat trick for Makoni seemed kind of inevitable, and it would come only a few minutes later in the 58th minute. This time he had to run past the goalkeeper and with almost with no angle was able to find enough space to get the ball in the back of the net. To finish of an amazing match, Makoni beat his defender on the run and put the ball past the keeper and to find his 4th goal and the 5th for Green Flag FC. With only 30 minutes to pla and a four-goal difference, it seemed like Green Flag would just have to wait as the clock would run out and claim the three points. Gio started the possible comeback for AC Juniors with a beautiful free kick in the 75th minute. Only a minute later, Lazo put a cross in for Sevilla to simply put his foot out and bury the ball in the back of the net. Minute 84 rolled around and Tony put an amazing through ball for Dani who ran around the goalkeeper and put the ball in the back of the net making the game 5-4 with only a few minutes left on the clock. The comeback seemed to be a matter of time at this moment but Green Flag are known for being able to hold scores and being able to close down matches, honoring the well-known phrase, “defense wins championships”. They picked up the win. a vital 3 points for GFFC as they continue their quest for the top spot.

In their next match, they will directly face the only opponent above them on the table, MAFC. In their last match, MAFC beat GFFC 5-0 and the boys in Green will be looking for revenge and a way to close down the gap which is now only 4 points between them. (MAFC does have one game in hand that could potentially make that a 7 point gap). AC Juniors will take on Frankfurt Athletic FC.

Houstonians FC 3-7 Night Watch FC

This was a great night for the Blue Owls. A great solo goal by Pineda put Night Watch up on the board first before Nelson would get one back for Houstonians. It was a busy first half in which the Blue Owls were able to capitalize on their opportunities whiles their opponent did not have the same luck. The second half kicked off again with a goal by Night Watch early on when Michale Leonard was on the receiving end of a cross to tap into the net. Minutes later he claimed his hat trick after flicking the ball over the goalkeeper and then putting the ball in the net. Cesar got the 6th goal from a header off a nice executed cross. And for the cherry on top, Medina made a run and unselfishly dropped off the ball to Rocha to score his first goal of the season. Houstonians were able to get a couple of goals back, but it wouldn’t be enough to match the 7 goals by Night Watch. Nelson scored his second from the spot and Levoni got the third from the spot as well.

Night Watch will look to continue to keep their form next week against Inter SC, while Houstonians FC need points to leave the relegation playoff spot. They will go head-to-head with Houston Rovers who are a direct competitor for those bottom spots. It should be a great and very decisive match for both squads.
