HOUSTON DASH HEAD COACH FABRICE GAUTRAT
On the match:
“It was a disappointing performance in all areas. We got out-hustled and outplayed, and the scoreline reflects that performance.”
On the team’s attacking performance:
“A lot of it goes hand in hand with our out of possession. We were late to a lot of things. They (Angel City FC) got into momentum and then we struggled in possession. We weren’t really activating in space behind, and we struggled to break that first line a little bit. What I told the group after the game was that we need to grow from this. To be a great team, you need to consistently show up, not only from a playing standpoint but from a mentality standpoint, and I thought that led to the performance we saw today from an in-possession standpoint.”
On Angel City FC’s second goal:
“You have to manage set pieces in the second phase. We know we need to sprint back and take care of all those details. Overall, the two goals are reflective of how we showed up today.”
On the positives to take away from this season:
“There is a lot we need to improve on to be a team that competes at the highest level in this league. If you look from the start of the season to where we are now, or compared to last year, the group is in a good spot. However, we need to make sure we come in with a bite and something to prove, and it starts with the day-to-day and how you show up for games.”
HOUSTON DASH DEFENDER MICHELLE ALOZIE
On the match:
"It just wasn't a good game for us. We knew that for the remainder of the games, we really had to put it in our favor and get the three points. We weren't able to do that today. It was a little bit less about whether or not Angel City was good, but us allowing them to be good with our own mistakes. When we had opportunities, we didn't capitalize. We know that's just not good enough. We know we have to be headstrong for the next two games and make sure we do everything to put the results in our favor."
On the team’s chemistry in the first half:
"It was just on us. It wasn't really if they were pressing or not. We turned the ball over whenever we started to find a rhythm. Then in the final third, we just weren't precise enough or clinical enough to get the ball moving or get the ball in the back of the net. So, it definitely was on us. We just need to do better for the next game."
On the mentality in the locker room:
"We literally have nothing to lose at this point. We really just have to fight for each other. We know that this second half of the season has been big for us, and we know that we can perform well. We have in these past few games, before coming to LA and so we can just have this as a one-off and continue the momentum that we've had in the second half of the season."
On the growth of the team:
"Obviously, it's still disheartening not getting the results, but we know that we are a much better team and that we've come a long way under Fabrice (Gautrat) and Angela (Hucles Mangano). That is something to look forward to in the future. We just have to really focus on these two games that we have left and give it everything we have and show the finished product of what we've been doing in training."
HOUSTON DASH MIDFIELDER SARAH PUNTIGAM
On the match:
“It was a disappointing result, and we all know that we can do better. Unfortunately, it wasn’t our day, but we will learn from it. We will work hard over to the next two weeks to do everything possible to get the six points.”
On the team’s performance:
“It was not our best game, and we were not on the level we can be and need to be in these types of matches. The only positive thing to take away from today is that we know we can do better.”
On the team’s mentality for last two regular season matches:
“We have to do everything we can with what is in our hands. We will work hard next week, learn from this and go after points. We cannot control what others do, but we will do our best to control what we can.”
On what the team can build on from improvements this season:
“In the second half of the season, you could see the improvements and that things are coming together. We are still in the process, and we didn’t show it today, but there is a lot to build on. We will bounce back from tonight.”
