HOUSTON DASH HEAD COACH FABRICE GAUTRAT
On the match:
"This is a tough place to play. Obviously, I thought that it was a solid performance in the first half. A goal got conceded against the run of play. Overall, for us to come back after being down 2-1, Sophie Schmidt came in and had a big impact right away off the corner is a real positive. Kiki (Van Zanten) scoring her goal. So, really exciting stuff. Then Chappy (Allysha Chapman) coming in and playing the way she did, I thought was really positive. So, there's a lot of a lot of good things to take away from this game."
On the defense:
I thought (Allysha Chapman) was solid. Obviously, she's still getting some rust out, but yeah, you could tell her defensive qualities and what she brings, the intensity which she defends. A couple times, not just her but other players were slipping a little bit. So that's just something to look at. Just maybe footwear. I thought the defense in the second half, I wasn't really pleased with some of the things that happened. So, we got to look back at that. I thought the first part of that second half; we were a little bit too deep in our half. We couldn't really get out. If I look at the first half, we worked a lot on how we want to press, how we want to counter press. There were some real, real positives from that second half."
On Avery Patterson:
“Like we talk about, there were specific areas we're looking to exploit. Avery (Patterson) delivers a fantastic cross and Kiki (Van Zanten) is exactly where she needs to be and really, really pleased for her. That is her first pro goal with Houston, a huge milestone for her."
On the corner kick that led to the equalizer:
“Eric (Klenofsky), our goalkeeper coach, does a really, really good job with set pieces. So, he obviously saw something there that could be exploited. I thought the players did really well to execute."
On the North Carolina game on Friday:
“You look at our away form and home form, there are many areas where we can improve. I think we'll be looking at that Carolina game with a lot of eagerness. If you look at what happened last game. So, definitely a point to prove. We're excited for the match up and I think it's a good overall first game to start the second half of the season."
HOUSTON DASH GOALKEEPER JANE CAMPBELL
On the match:
“It was a well-fought game. We wish we had gotten the win, but Bay is a difficult team to play against, especially because they have a good atmosphere. Walking away with the point on the road is good, and we will take that momentum to hopefully get three points at home next weekend.”
On the next home game and the rest of the season:
“We came out in this game and wanted to put a lot of pressure on them and just show that we are going to be on the front foot and try to turn the season around. We are really excited to be at Shell (Energy Stadium), and we are looking to build some momentum off this point and just take it one game at a time. We can’t look too far ahead and can’t look at the past. We are excited to get the second half of the season going and chip away at the table to see if we can make some moves here.”
HOUSTON DASH MIDFIELDER SOPHIE SCHMIDT
On the match:
“We came out hard and gave them a tough game. They fought to the very end, and Jane (Campbell) made some great saves. It’s always hard to have that first game on the road after a break, but we showed some of the things we’d been working on during the break. We’re happy to get the point on the road.”
On coming in shortly before scoring:
“I know my role. I’m a veteran, and I just wanted to go in and make an impact to try to help my team get the point.”
On working on set pieces during the break:
“That was a perfectly executed corner. Delaine (Sheehan) had a great ball in and made my job easy.”
On Allysha Chapman’s performance:
“She’s phenomenal. I am so proud of her. She’s had a rough year with the injury, but I am so proud of her for coming back in the way she did. She’s been working hard, and it showed. She didn’t lose a step. She was fighting, she was tenacious, gritty. That’s something our team loves in our players.”
