HOUSTON DASH HEAD COACH FABRICE GAUTRAT
On the match:
“I’m pleased with how we responded in the second half. One thing we told our players was, if you look at everything leading up to our first goal, there are really good spells of football, and then as soon as we score, we kind of like, start seeding or kind of retreating. So yeah, just talked about the mentality piece. We have to keep believing that we can play that way and not be surprised by that. So, that's just something we talked about internally.”
On the first start of the season for Michelle Alozie and Evelina Duljan:
“Evelina (Duljan) is a very good player for us. She had a little injury, so she has worked her way back, but she's a really good pocket player, good football player. Comes from overseas, and we're excited trying to get her back in the mix. We felt Michelle (Alozie) has been coming off the bench quite well with stretching the last line and all that. So, we felt she deserved a go. I thought she had a really good first half, overall good.”
On Avery Patterson’s goal:
"She can strike with both feet. She's one of our more dangerous players. When she goes at people one-on-one, especially as a defender, she creates havoc. She's shown that she can score from a lot of different angles. She's a big part of what we do, and I'm happy with how she's performing.”
On Barbara Olivieri’s involvement in both goals:
“She's dynamic and she's getting better and better. One of the things she's really grown in is her positioning. When we have the ball, and I think that's been really evident. She has that bite, she has that tenacity. Yes, she was tired a little bit towards the end, but she always brings that energy. I'm really pleased.”
HOUSTON DASH DEFENDER AVERY PATTERSON
On the game:
“We came out strong in the first half. After we scored, we got a bit complacent. We started getting more numbers behind the ball rather than trying to get a second goal. Props to Messiah (Bright) and our entire team in the second half for being able to pull out another goal.”
On her first shot on goal:
“That did give me the confidence to go hard on my left. In my head, I figured Bay FC had scouted that I was probably going to do a step over and cut to my right foot. So, I anticipated that they would probably scout my right foot again. So, I went with my left foot. The ninth minute shot gave me the confidence to score a goal and have a go with my left.”
On the defensive line:
"We had such a strong performance coming off Seattle. It was heartbreaking that we weren't able to provide that again tonight, especially in front of our home crowd. As a defender, you obviously take all of that on the chest and blame yourself for everything that happens. I know I was at fault in some of those plays, and that’s football at the end of the day. We have to learn from it, grow from it, and make sure it doesn’t happen too often."
On representing the U.S. Women’s National Team:
“It still brings me to a loss for words because it’s something I've said in a lot of interviews, that you wait for so long for the opportunity that once you’re actually at camp and in that environment, you kind of have a pinch yourself moment. It's exciting and it's not something that I take for granted at all. Every day there is an opportunity and I'm very excited to learn from all the girls there.”
HOUSTON DASH FORWARD MESSIAH BRIGHT
On the game:
“It was a hard-fought game between the girls. Avery (Patterson) scored an amazing banger, like she always does. The team build, moving into that play and making it happen was awesome. Those are some things that we have been working on as a team, to try and become more consistent. We need to close out those moments and take the home field advantage, which I don’t think we have captured enough yet. When I subbed in, I was doing what I could for the group. It was a perfect build leading up to my goal and with what we’ve been working on, in training. It shows a true example of who we are. I’m looking to use this momentum as lessons and grow as we move on to Orlando.”
On scoring her first goal of the season:
“I always remind myself that I’m going to score. There are some games where I haven’t but just speaking that into fruition every single time and giving myself positive reinforcement. When the moment presents itself, I’m going to try to be prepared as much as I can. I believe it was a perfect example, to stay composed in a tough situation and to do what I know.”
