HOUSTON DASH HEAD COACH FABRICE GAUTRAT
On the match:
“It was a good performance from the team. The goals speak for themselves. We were solid defensively and it was great to give playing time to several players we haven’t seen much of this season. Overall, it was a good night to check a lot of those boxes.”
On Rebeca’s first start and Zoe Matthews’ performance:
“Rebeca looked very comfortable in the midfield alongside Sarah (Puntigam). Zoe (Matthews) came in during the last 30 minutes of the match and did a good job. The two are still so young and have room for growth and I was very pleased with the both of them.”
On controlling the match tempo:
“That's always been our goal. This league is very difficult; we're still growing in terms of our identity and confidence. This was a good match for us, especially when you look at the quality of chances we created. It was great for us to capitalize on those chances.”
On the team’s goals moving forward:
“We need to keep improving the chances we create going inside the box. We do a good job of getting into the attacking third. Now we ask ourselves, ‘how does that translate into box entries?’ That’s something that’s big for us and a key focus as we continue to improve. We also are adding minutes to players like (Allysha Chapman) so they’re game-fit for the first NWSL match in the second half of the season.”
HOUSTON DASH DEFENDER AVERY PATTERSON
On the match:
“This is a unique time of the year for us. We have Michelle (Alozie) and Bárbara Olivieri off on international duty, so it gives other players opportunities to step up and fill their roles. It’s a turning point for us. This match was us closing the door on the first half of the season and opening the next one for the second half. I was pleased with the performance tonight.”
On her performance in the first half of the season:
“It goes back to who I am as a soccer player, to my core. I grew up an attacking player and then transitioned to being a defender throughout college. I am more of an attacking-minded defender. Here they have me playing a more inverted outside back role, where I push into the attack more often than not. That allows me to stay fresh.”
On the team’s mentality for a playoff run:
“It’s an off the field mentality of having belief, knowing that it’s only seven points (to the playoff cutoff), so we have to believe in our system and trust the tactics given to us every week and it's up to us to execute the game plan. On the field, it's about ruthlessness and knowing that we're going to come at these teams and take it to them, instead of letting them have the front foot like in the majority of games in the first half of the season. Going into the second half, it's about ruthlessness and the belief that we're only seven points behind.”
