Uptick in Form
Since league play resumed, the Dash have picked up just one point from a loss and a draw. While that return may not look impressive on paper, their performances have told a more encouraging story. Houston was competitive against one of the league's favorites, Washington, despite an outstanding performance from Trinity Rodman. They also showed resilience by coming from behind twice to earn a point against a strong Denver side. The Dash are far from a finished product, but recent performances suggest they're capable of competing with quality opponents. The next step is turning those encouraging displays into victories.
Rookies Are Delivering
Many expected the Dash to struggle after moving on from several key players and placing significant trust in a young group of rookies. Instead, those newcomers have embraced the challenge.
Kat Rader leads the team in goals, is tied for sixth in the NWSL Golden Boot race, and has emerged as one of the leading candidates for Rookie of the Year. Linda Ullmark has become the team's leading assist provider, while versatile defender Leah Klenke has developed into a key piece of the back line alongside U.S. Women's National Team defender Avery Patterson. Kate Faasse and Cate Hardin have also provided valuable depth, becoming important contributors in the team's rotation.
Houston's youth movement has exceeded expectations, and the investment in its rookie class is already paying dividends.
Louisville in Disarray
Few could have predicted the season Racing Louisville is experiencing. After reaching the playoffs last year and seeing head coach Bev Yanez earn NWSL Coach of the Year honors, the club entered 2026 with high expectations. Instead, the season has unraveled.
A lengthy injury list and players away on maternity leave have certainly played a role, but Louisville's on-field performances have also been concerning. The club has consistently been outplayed and outscored by its opponents. To make matters worse, star forward Emma Sears has requested a transfer away from the club, creating even more uncertainty.
While Louisville's struggles are unfortunate, they present a significant opportunity for the Dash to leave Kentucky with all three points.
