Dynamo 2sday: Dos beaten again by Sporting Kansas City II

Dynamo 2 visited Sporting Kansas City II on Sunday, looking for their first win of the MLS NEXT Pro season. Gabe Segal and Brooklyn Raines joined up with the second team for this match and slotted into the starting eleven.

It only took a minute and a few seconds for the home team to attack the goal of Xavier Valdez. The Dominican national got some help from his right post to keep the game at zero for both teams. The Dynamo got a shot on goal in the third minute but were denied by SKC II goalkeeper Ryan Schewe.

It didn’t take much later for SKC II to get a ball in the back of the net. In the 9th minute, Maouloune Goumballe made a run to the near post to receive a cross from Kayden Pierre and put the ball into the back of the net to open the count for the home side.

Dynamo Dos had a great chance to tie it up in the 20th minute. Ousmane Sylla found an open Segal to his left as he drew defenders his way. Unfortunately, Segal’s shot went wide on the clearest chance the guys in orange had in the first 20 minutes.

Things turned worse for the Dynamo when right before then end of the half, in the 41st minute, Omar Grey was shown his second yellow of the match. The red card left the visitors with 10 men to play the rest of the match. Sporting had one last chance in the dying seconds of the first half on the feet of Sebastian Cruz. He couldn’t control the ball at the back post, however, and the ball slipped right under his feet.

The second half started at a very fast pace. Sporting recovered the ball in the midfield and Cruz once again got a clear chance at goal, but he sent that ball over on his attempt. The Dynamo needed to wake up if they wanted to bring any points back to Houston. Cruz got another chance in the 55th minute and this time the shot was blocked by Valdez out for a corner kick.

Sporting kept attacking and attacking, not letting their foot off the gas. The home team continued to accumulate shots and even hit the post one more time in the 70th minute from a header. All that attacking paid off for Sporting as they found their second goal of the match. A shot by Kamron Habibullah was deflected as Parker Jackson tried to block the shot. The deflection sent the ball the opposite way of where the original shot was heading, sending Valdez one way and the ball the other. Sporting got their well-deserved second goal and now the climb was even steeper for Dynamo 2. They were two goals down and playing with one less man to try and turn things around at Rock Chalk Park.

In the 84th minute, Cruz finally got his goal for Sporting. Ethan Bryant took on a few Dynamo defenders inside the box and found an open Cruz inside the 6 yard to convert the third goal of the match for his side. Houston got a chance to get on the board after a long ball found Stephen Annor one inside the box. His shot went over the crossbar, however, in the 85th minute. In the very next passage of play, Bryant crossed a perfect ball for Megdy Alexandre to push in and make the match 4-0 in favor of the home team in the 86th minute.

The defeat makes it now four in a row for Houston to open the season and their second loss to SKC II. Dynamo 2 have only scored three goals in four matches, while conceding ten goals. The bad news is that the next match will be another tough one, as Dynamo Dos will travel up I-45 to take on undefeated North Texas SC on April 28. The good news is that Kenny Bundy and the staff will have a full two weeks to get his team ready for this match and hopefully get some points on the board.

Like I mentioned before, the next match will be against in-state rival North Texas SC on Sunday, April 28. Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM and you can catch all the action on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV. #VamosDos
