Dynamo 2sday: Dos beaten in Tacoma once again
Houston Dynamo 2 traveled up to the Pacific Northwest once again looking to finally find a victory in Tacoma Defiance territory. “It’ll be a battle because it goes all the way back to last year in the playoffs,” head coach Kenny Bundy said before the match. “Every game that we play against them it's tight and obviously we’re playing at their place. We're excited about the weather. That'll be a fun one.”
It was a tough game for both sides, but the possession was mainly controlled by the visitors most of the game. Tacoma Defiance goalkeepr Andrew Thomas would prove to play a crucial part to define the outcome of the match in the home team’s favor.
In the 10th minute Thomas would stop a free kick by Diego Gonzalez. In the 16th minute, Papa N’Doye took a good first touch to push the ball forward and set himself up for a shot would also not amount to much. Shortly after that, when the Dynamo seemed to be closer and closer to getting on the board, Tacoma’s Braudilio Rodrigues found a pass to and overlapping runner. Dylan Teves would collect the rebound outside the box and hit a low shot across the goal, away from Dynamo goalkeepr Xavier Valdez, to put Tacoma Defiance on top 1-0 in the 18th minute.
A few minutes later, in the 26th minute of play, Josh Atencio would put a low cross into the box with a Defiance player barely getting a foot on the ball. The shot was on target and forced Valdez to make a difficult save to send the ball out for a corner kick. The first half would end with the home side leading 1-0.
Dynamo Dps would come out quick in the second half. In the 50th minute, a long throw from Mujeeb Murana landed in the box. A double header would give Houston a chance but the ball went just over the crossbar.
Things would seem to get a little harder for the orange team as Tacoma Defiance would strike again. This time luck would be on their side as the goal would be called back for an offside. The game stayed at 1-0 and gave Dynamo Dos a chance at the equalizer.
The chance for the Dynamo almost came in the 76th when Diego Gonzales took a shot from the corner of the 18. The ball took a slight deflection off the leg of the defender. The ball almost ended in upper 90 of the Defiance’s goal. Tacoma would scare the visiting side in the 79th minute with a counter, but Antonio Herrera’s shot would go just wide of the net, nearly putting the last nail in the coffin for the Dynamo.
Unfortunately, Dynamo 2 would to push for a penalty shoutout but weren’t lucky enough to put a ball past the goal keeper. Once again Tacoma Defiance got the upper hand at home against the team from the Bayou City. This marked the third time that Houston went up to Tacoma and came out with a defeat. The only victory Houston has over Tacoma Defiance was about a year ago, back on June 26, 2022, when the Dynamo won with a late goal from Marcelo Palomino.
”There’s a lot of work to do,” Bundy said after the match. “Another game where we created opportunities and could have come away with points. It comes down to moments, like it has every game that we have dropped points this year. We need to be back ready to go on Tuesday."
Like the head coach said, the team has quick turn around and will be traveling to Austin on Friday to take on Austin FC II at 8 PM. Like always you can follow along on Apple TV - MLS Season Pass.
