The 2026 MLS NEXT Pro season has officially kicked off, and Houston Dynamo 2 started their campaign in the best way possible, clinching a 2-0 win against Colorado Rapids 2.

Prior to the start of the game, the club announced the roster for this season’s team. It included many contributors from last year such as Brazilian goalkeeper Pedro Cruz and U.S youth international Matthew Dimareli. Several new names were also added to a roster filled with academy potential and internationals eager to make a name for themselves.

Dos fielded first-team full back Felipe Andrade on the right side as he continues to recover from his injury. The backline also included Daniel Barrett, Gavin Wolff, and Isaac Mwakutuya, with Pedro Cruz slotting in as the shot-stopper.

The midfield three consisted of Gilberto Rivera, Matthew Arana (who debuted with the first team on Saturday), and Gustavo Dohmann. The front line featured Dimareli, winger Samir Mohammad, and striker Arthur Sousa.

The first 45 minutes featured no goals for either side, but according to Sofascore, the men in orange controlled the attacking momentum in the half. It would only be a matter of time until they found the back of the net.

The dam finally opened for Houston when Mohammad scored his first professional goal in the 60th minute. Noah Betancourt played a cross in from the right that found Mohammad at the back post. He finished first-time to give Dynamo 2 a 1-0 lead.

Dos settled into a more defensive shape after that goal, and Colorado began to create the majority of chances, but Dos held firm.

In the 89th minute, a shot from Jahmani Bell rebounded to fellow substitute D’Alessandro Herrera, who slotted it past several Colorado defenders from close range to make the score 2-0 and secure a hard-fought victory for the home side.

Dos will return to action on Sunday, March 8, at SaberCats Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. CT. Tickets to attend the match are free. If you can’t make it out to the stadium, fans can tune in and watch the match through the OneFootball app.
