Dynamo 2sday: Texas Derby Decided in Penalty Kicks

Houston Dynamo 2 traveled north, in-state, this past weekend to face offagainst North Texas SC for the second time inside the same week. 

The previous match was a Wednesday match up where Houston pulled off an amazing comeback when they came back from a 2-1 deficit in the 75th minute while down a man, and scored twice in added time, goals by Mohammed Samir and Austin Brummett, to finish the game with a 3-2 victory. 

As the team was riding high from that victory, they once again had to face the familiar foes in their last road game of the regular season. And once more, it was a tough, tight match up for both Texan squads. 

The match ended with a 0-0 scoreline, with yet another shutout, the ninth clean sheet of the season for the Orange. Goalkeeper Logan Erb, for Dynamo Dos, finished the match with 4 saves to help achieve the tie to win a point and push the game to penalties to fight for another point. 

Unfortunately, Dynamo 2 fell short in penalty kicks, missing the last two penalties of the 5 taken, given the extra point to North Texas. 

Houston will finish their regular season when they host Sporting Kansas City II on Sunday September 20th, for MLS NEXT Pro’s Decision Day. Dos already hold a top four spot, guaranteeing a home match up in the quarterfinals, while Sporting are already eliminated from the playoffs, so it should be an interesting match up, as coach Jeremy Hurdle will have to define and balance out a perfect team thinking about the playoff match coming next.
