The Houston Dynamo make their first away trip of the season to in-state rivals FC Dallas on Saturday. Here’s what you need to know about Houston’s opponent this weekend.

FC Dallas come into the game off a 3-3 draw against San Diego where Croatian Forward Petar Musa scored all three goals to bring Dallas’s record to 1W-1L-2D this season. Dallas’s only loss of the season was a 1-0 Loss at LAFC.

Both Dallas and Houston rank in the bottom 4 of MLS in average possession, with Dallas averaging 41.3% (4th-lowest) and Houston averaging 40.0% (2nd-lowest). Despite not controlling the ball, Dallas has totaled 6.2 xG this season (9th-highest in MLS) and have only conceded 4.4 xGA (9th-lowest in MLS).

Last season’s away game was Houston’s first win in Frisco in 14 years, a 2-0 victory courtesy of goals from Griffin Dorsey and Jack McGlynn. That game brought the all time record of the Dynamo against Dallas to 15W-17L-20D, and a record of 4W-12L-9D at Toyota Stadium.

Key Players

Petar Musa

Musa joined FC Dallas on a club record fee from Portuguese giants Benfica in 2024 and has been one of the best strikers in MLS, scoring 40 goals and creating 9 assists in just 66 games for Dallas. Musa has already scored 5 goals of Dallas’s 6 total goals this season, a brace on opening day against Toronto and a hat trick last week against San Diego. That makes him the tied top scorer in MLS this season.

Osaze Urhoghide

Osaze is a former Sheffield Wednesday and Celtic player who joined Dallas last season and became the backbone of Dallas’s 3-back system. He led the league in duels won with 174 at a 60.6% rate. He missed Dallas’s last game with a lower leg injury and will be a big factor in the game if he ends up missing another match.

Head Coach

Eric Quill

Eric Quill is a Houston native who was raised in Missouri City, Texas and was a youth coach here in H-Town after retirement. He was an assistant coach at University of Houston’s Women’s Soccer team and worked his way up the ranks until he was hired as FC Dallas’s head coach in November 2024. In his first season with Dallas, he led the team to the MLS playoffs, losing to eventual MLS Cup finalists Vancouver Whitecaps in the first round. Quill has an all time record of 1W-1L-0D against Houston, winning at Houston on opening day last year and losing 2-0 at Dallas in May.
