2025 in review

Gabe joined Houston ahead of the 2024 season as a 22-year-old striker from New York City FC. Unfortunately for him, the club had already secured their starting Designated Player striker in Ezequiel Ponce, which often left Gabe on the bench or sent down to Houston Dynamo 2 for playing time.

One thing that stood out about Segal was his heart—every time he stepped on the field, he chased the ball relentlessly. However, the limited minutes and circumstances of his appearances made it difficult for him to truly impact matches. He was never a liability, but outside of that one standout game against his former club New York City, Segal struggled to make a significant difference.

Moment of the season

Gabe had his big moment in May when Houston traveled to New York City—his old stomping grounds—to face NYCFC at the iconic Yankee Stadium. After missing a few early chances in his first MLS start, Segal doubled Houston’s lead in the 50th minute. Late in the match, Houston earned a penalty, and Segal stepped up to convert it, completing his first career MLS brace. His performance earned him a spot on the MLS Team of the Matchday, alongside teammate Femi Awodesu and head coach Ben Olsen.

Looking forward

For the 2026 season, Gabe Segal will enter free agency in search of a new club to showcase his abilities. The Houston Dynamo have decided not to retain his services after his contract ended at the end of this season.
