HOUSTON DYNAMO HEAD COACH BEN OLSEN
On Erik Sviatchenko’s return to the pitch:
“It has been a frustrating process this year not having two center backs consistently healthy and in good form. It is an issue, but we are going to get past that, and tonight was an important step for Erik (Sviatchenko). He looked good, and you could tell that his leadership and physicality is what the team needs. We need our best center back out there constantly. With that being said, it is important to not overcook him at this moment because we want to build him and have him for the rest of the season. So, we had a minutes limit on Erik tonight, and 60 minutes was the max.”
On the team’s fight to the end of the match:
“The guys who came off the bench brought real life into the game, and that is what we wanted. We are looking at players in different positions and just trying to figure this out. It was nice for Felipe Andrade to get that goal at the end. There is no quit in this team, and quit is something I will never allow.”
HOUSTON DYNAMO DEFENDER ERIK SVIATCHENKO
On his return to the starting lineup:
“I struggled with an injury for a while and to be back in the starting lineup is something I am very happy about. I wish I could have scripted the match differently, but football is a brutal game, and right now we are in a phase where we are not getting the results we want. Of course, we are the ones that have to dig ourselves out of this. We are doing everything we can each day to improve and to display better performances on the pitch.”
On his message to Dynamo fans:
“The team still sees light as we enter the second part of the season. It might be difficult for everyone to see that, especially when you lose three games in a row. It is all about momentum, and that can change a game and season quickly. On Saturday, we will be back at Shell Energy Stadium, and we need urgency from everyone on the field, as well as support from the stands. It is a mental game. Football can be a positive sport with joy and smiles, and we need to find that some way. One game can change the season for the better or the worse, but we are always optimists.”
