HOUSTON DYNAMO HEAD COACH BEN OLSEN
On the result:
“It was a scrappy game, but tonight was about being alert, taking advantage of set pieces and dealing with transitions. I am proud of the group because we delt with that well. For the most part, we held New York to very few opportunities. It was a real collective effort, and that is what saw us through today. It was nice to see Duane Holmes get a few minutes and Jack McGlynn being himself. Nico Lodeiro also put a good shift in. I am thrilled with the result, and now it is about patching ourselves up and getting ready for another tricky game at home against a new and improved Kansas City.”
On Gabe Segal’s performance:
“Gabe (Segal) is a big part of the team. Even when he is not getting minutes, he still brings good energy into the locker room. He connects very well with his teammates and brings the right attitude every day, so it was nice to see him have success tonight with his two-goal performance.”
HOUSTON DYNAMO FORWARD GABE SEGAL
On the result:
“It was great to get a win. Midweek games can sometimes be tough, especially with this weather and playing on a different surface. We came out strong and everybody worked hard to put in a great shift. It was great on a team level and also personally to score two goals after not playing very much in recent weeks.”
On his first goal:
“The striker position is about scoring goals, and you have to put yourself in the best spot possible for rebounds or anything else to happen in the box because it is very unpredictable. I knew when Erik Dueñas got the ball, he was most likely going to hit a shot across goal, so I gambled, and I was the first one there for the tap in. It was an easy finish, but positioning was important.”
