The Houston Dynamo have made the cross-country trip for tonight’s midweek match up. We asked our staff for their predictions on the match against New York City FC.
Cristian - 2-2 draw
(Record: 5-10)
I expect this game to play out much like the one we saw in California over the weekend. The field dimensions could be a factor, but we can definitely anticipate plenty of goals. The big questions: Can the Dynamo defense rise to the occasion? And will Ponce’s replacement seize the opportunity?
Rudy - 2-1 Dynamo loss
(Record: 6-9)
The Houston Dynamo have been in strong form this month, but NYCFC at home is a different challenge. Houston will aim to control possession, but the Blues thrive in fast-paced, back-and-forth matches. Without Ezequiel Ponce, holding up play could be tough. I see the Dynamo falling 2-1 in the Big Apple.
Joey - 1-1 draw
(Record: 5-9)
The Dynamo have proven they are masters at grinding out points on the road in recent weeks and I expect them to repeat that trend against a NYCFC team that is going to look to play a similar high possession style. I have a hard time seeing the Dynamo winning without Ponce, but they should still be able to manage a solid point.
Dustyn - 2-0 Dynamo loss
(Record: 6-9)
The Dynamo are starting to click and position themselves for a playoff spot as summer approaches. With that being said, a cross-country trip for a midweek match in a tough place to play, this could be the first league loss for Houston in some time.
Manny - 1-0 Dynamo loss
(Record 5-9)
With the brutal travel schedule the Dynamo are facing, it’s hard to see them as favorites on the road against New York. Despite their late comeback against San Jose, the real question is whether they have it in them again—this time against a strong Eastern Conference opponent like NYCFC, who are quietly emerging as a contender in the East and possibly for MLS Cup.
