HOUSTON DYNAMO HEAD COACH BEN OLSEN
On the match:
“We are thrilled with this result and the way it went down. It was not perfect, but this group needed this type of win in this moment in time to move forward. This showed that we have some of the moxie to go on the road, particularly after our recent performances. We just needed to be more selfless in the way we go about games and understand that this is hard league to go on the road and get a result. If you work for each other and every guy shows up, that can be enough to get you three, four or fives wins on the road, and maybe that is enough to get you into the playoffs. It was a fairly even game, and they pushed us down the stretch after we scored, and we each had some good chances. But our defensive resiliency is what made me the most proud tonight of the three points.”
On Hector Herrera’s goal:
“It was a night where we were going to give them the ball, and they were going to have some spells, and we were going to be compact. There was always going to be some transition moments because of that. We had a few in the first half that we should have done better with, and we were knocking on the door. It was nice that one of them fell for us. We thought it would take two goals here, but our defense held up well, so it only took one. It was nice to see Héctor (Herrera) score. As we continue to figure this team out, Héctor is growing into form. We played him again because we thought it was a game that made sense for him, and the more that he is playing now, the more in rhythm he gets. That is a good thing for us and our fans, because he is a winner. It was nice that he played that many minutes, and for him to play in back-to-back matches is a good sign.”
On Artur’s return:
“Artur looked like himself and picked up where he left off. That is a sign of a professional and someone who is experienced and has been around. That gave the group a lift when he came back, and it was just nice to see him back on the field, and we will build his minutes.”
HOUSTON DYNAMO MIDFIELDER ARTUR
On returning to the pitch following his preseason knee injury:
“It was a difficult time being injured and out for that long. I am used to being on the pitch. I had to work a lot with the medical team, and they helped me a lot. But I am glad to be back on the oitch and happy to be back with the guys to keep things moving in the right direction.”
On the importance of the clean sheet:
“It is important, and we needed it. The guys did well from the start of the match and began with a different mentality than the first two away games. That made a difference, and everyone played together, understood each other and supported each other. We understand that is what it takes to get some points on the road. Hopefully, we keep things moving this way and reminding ourselves this is what it takes to win games.”
On his relationship with Hector Herrera:
“Héctor (Herrera) and I are good friends. We have a good relationship both on the pitch and away from it. I am happy for him and was happy when he scored the goal. Time passes by fast, but he is important for us because he has some qualities that are difficult to find in players. He has obviously played at a high level, and he still plays at that level. He is turning 36 tomorrow, but he can still help us a lot and give us things that not many players can give us. I am happy to have him back with us.”
