The Houston Dynamo earned a point on the road against the San Jose Earthquakes in a 3-3 draw. Let’s take a look at how everyone performed.
Starters
Jonathan Bond-8 (7.07 avg)
While Bond did concede three goals in this game, he managed to make five saves, including multiple tough one on ones.
Griffin Dorsey-9 (2x Man of the Match) (7.3 avg)
This is the second MLS game in a row where Griffin Dorsey earns my man of the match following yet another one goal and one assist game. This is the form Dynamo fans have been waiting for Dorsey to unleash since the end of the 2023 season.
Obafemi Awodesu-2.5 (5.68 avg)
It was another disaster of a game for Femi as he was at fault for two of the three goals with horrendous marking. He simply needs to be better with his positioning.
Pablo Ortiz-5 (6.25 avg)
This was not a great performance by Ortiz whatsoever, but this was not the disaster that Femi and Andrade had defensively. He had a few moments with some excellent defending but overall you will not receive a high score when conceding three goals.
Felipe Andrade-5 (6.75 avg)
I almost didn’t know how to rate Andrade given he scored a goal in this game. However, he is a defender and he did not do a whole lot of that on the night. Like Femi, he had a nightmare marking San Jose’s strikers in the box. It was an awful defensive game and he finally looked like a young player.
Artur-5 (6.6 avg)
This was just a very dull game from Artur where he didn’t stand out in any way. San Jose’s midfield outplayed the Dynamo’s at times in the second half and Artur failed to put put some of the fires we would expect. In the first half he was very good, however.
Brooklyn Raines-7.5 (7.25 avg)
There were moments in this game where Brookyln was heading towards the man of the match with some incredible midfield play in the first half. However, his second half display dipped with a few defensive lapses. His work ethic remains incredible and will keep him starting going forward.
Ondrej Lingr-7.5 (6.36 avg)
Lingr was put back out wide with Ponce back in the lineup and he had a very positive game. He was heavily involved in two of the goals and played some really solid defense. This is the type of performance you want to see when grinding out some road points.
Amine Bassi-7.5 (6.63 avg)
Like Lingr, this was the type of game you want to see from your attacking midfielders when going on the road against a tough team. He worked his tail off and was able to create some good opportunities.
Jack McGlynn-7.5 (7.64 avg)
It’s incredible that a 7.5 is looked at as only an ok score given Jack’s form of late. He was able to dig deep and be dangerous on set pieces while dictating play from out wide. There was nothing special out of Jack on the night.
Ezequiel Ponce-7.5 (5.98 avg)
Ponce was back starting and looking really positive in his 60 minutes on the field. He took his goal well but didn’t see a ton of the ball. He has been trending in the right direction since Lingr has arrived and the best is to be seen from Ponce this season.
Substitutes
Sebastian Kowalczyk-6.5 (6.23 avg)
Seba had a very solid performance off the bench and he was involved in Dorsey’s game leveling goal. He brought the energy you like to see, even if he was not a standout.
Franco Escobar-7.5 (7.79 avg)
Escobar only played a handful of minutes and still managed to get the assist for Dorsey’s tying goal.
Nicolas Lodeiro and Toyosi Olusanya-N/A
Neither player played enough minutes to warrant a rating. Toyosi got to see a few more minutes in preparation for him possibly starting on Wednesday night with Ponce’s suspension.
Head Coach
Ben Olsen-7.5 (7.3 avg)
Ben got everything right in the first half with his team flying up a goal. They then went on to go up 2-0 very early in the second half. However, the game did slow down for the Dynamo when an injury forced Ponce off the field and San Jose got back into the game. You still will always take a road point against a team in good form.
