The Houston Dynamo are back at Shell Energy Stadium tonight as they continue to try and climb the table in the Western Conference. Houston will host the LA Galaxy in a rescheduled match from earlier this summer. The Dynamo are coming off an important 3-2 win last weekend against St. Louis CITY SC. The Galaxy last played on Sunday, beating Orlando City in the Leagues Cup third place game to qualify for next year’s Concacaf Champions Cup.

Let’s Try This Again

Tonight’s match was originally scheduled for July 25 but as fans arrived to Shell Energy Stadium, the skies opened up and the rain didn’t stop. The field turned into a lake and as the clock approached midnight, the pitch was deemed unable to play on. Now the rescheduled date comes at a time when the Dynamo need three points as they continue to attempt to claw back into the playoff picture. July, September, whenever this match was played, the key thing is the Dynamo find the home form that has gone missing for much of 2025.

In the Window

With the match being rescheduled to this weekend, it ended up falling during a FIFA international window. Unfortunately, for the Dynamo, this means they will be without two starting midfielders in Jack McGlynn and Brooklyn Raines. We’ve seen Junior Urso fill in admirably for Raines at times this season. McGlynn, on the other hand, is a uniquely talented player that the Dynamo don’t have a like-for-like replacement for. If Lawrence Ennali and Ondrej Lingr start once again on the left and center of midfield, we could see Duane Holmes or Sebastian Kowalczyk in McGlynn’s right midfield role. Whoever it is will have big shoes to fill in a very important match for Houston.

The Champs are Back

The LA Galaxy have had a rough go of defending the MLS Cup title they won last season. They currently sit dead last in the Supporters Shield table with just 19 points from 27 matches. Amidst all of that disappointment, they managed to make a run in the Leagues Cup and earn a place in next season’s Concacaf Champions Cup after finishing in third place. Now, what is left to play for? The Galaxy will be without talisman Joseph Paintsil who is away on international duty. With a shorter week of rest, a key player missing, a regular season all but over, can the Galaxy play the role of spoilers for a Dynamo team with still so much on the line?

Houston Dynamo FCOut: Damion Lowe (international duty), Jack McGlynn (international duty), Brooklyn Raines (international duty), Andrew Tarbell (knee); Questionable: Michael Halliday (lower body), Pablo Ortiz (lower body), Nelson Quinones (knee), Erik Sviatchenko (lower body)

LA Galaxy Out: Joseph Paintsil (international duty), Julian Aude (foot), Emiro Garces (lower body), Matheus Nascimento (thigh), Riqui Puig (knee); Questionable: Marco Reus (thigh)
