The Houston Dynamo have announced the signing of Polish attacker Mateusz Bogusz. According to reports, the Dynamo are paying $6 million with an additional $4 million in bonuses. The 24-year-old joins from Cruz Azul in Mexico as a Designated Player. He is signed through the 2027-28 season with a club option through 2029-30.
“Mateusz is a versatile attacker entering the prime of his career who will immediately upgrade our attack this season,” said Dynamo President of Soccer Pat Onstad. “He is a good fit for our system, providing quality to finish attacks in a variety of ways as well as a selfless defensive work ethic. Mateusz fits the mold of the players we are bringing to Houston — a good professional who finds ways to win. We want to extend a warm welcome to Mateusz and his wife Wiktoria to Houston as we push to compete for trophies in 2026.”
Bogusz moved to Liga MX in January of last year when Cruz Azul reportedly payed $9 million for him. He struggled to find playing time with the Mexican club, totaling just over 1,200 minutes in 23 matches. Before going to Mexico, Bogusz was a star in Major League Soccer for LAFC. He scored 20 goals in all competitions for the SoCal club in the 2024 season, which prompted his big-money move last year.
“Everyone at the Club is excited to welcome Mateusz to Houston as we continue building a team capable of competing at the highest level in 2026,” said Dynamo head coach Ben Olsen. “He’s a proven MLS attacker with the quality and mentality to change games, and we look forward to seeing Mateusz play in front of our fans at Shell Energy Stadium soon.”
Bogusz now returns to MLS to spear-head a revamped Dynamo attack. Bogusz can play as an out-and-out striker, on the wing, or deeper as an attacking midfielder. His versatility will give Ben Olsen and the coaching staff a number of options on how to set the team up. Bogusz will join what is now a potent stable of Houston attackers with Ezequiel Ponce, Jack McGlynn, Lawrence Ennali, Guilherme, Ondrej Lingr, and Duane Holmes, among others.
