HOUSTON DYNAMO HEAD COACH BEN OLSEN

On the result:

“Up to the first red card, we played well. We were disciplined even while asking the guys to do some things that might have been out of their comfort zone to make sure we protected space and absorbed transition. We frustrated LAFC and created some really good chances in the first half, but then the red card changes everything. Here's what I'll say about the red card – to me, it was the wrong call at the wrong moment, and it changed the entire match. Even while playing down a man, the overall effort tonight was incredible from our guys. They looked after each other. We did let ourselves down by giving up two set-piece goals, because that’s the controlled phase. There was maybe a point in this game for us tonight.”

On Matthew Arana’s debut:

“(Matthew Arana) earned those minutes. He is a good kid, and you can see his talent level out there. Hopefully, he can continue to grow, and we can grab him some more minutes.”

On Jonathan Bond’s performance:

“(Jonathan Bond) had big saves in the match. He is in a really good place, and he is training really well. Our goalkeeper coach Preston Burpo is the guy in charge, and he is doing a very good job with the keepers, and certainly Jonathan. He has been good with the ball on the ground, connecting passes and making the right plays. You also want your goalkeeper making big saves, and tonight he did just that.”

HOUSTON DYNAMO GOALKEEPER JONATHAN BOND

On the result:

“We are disappointed with the result. It is always difficult when you go down to 10 players and even more difficult when you go down to nine. It is always disappointing to lose at home, but in these circumstances, I believe we put in a good effort to stay in the match and there were some plays we can be proud of.”

On his relationship with goalkeeper coach Preston Burpo:

“(Preston Burpo) is a very proactive and positive guy. We got along really well straight away. The whole goalkeeper department – Pedro (Cruz), Logan (Erb), Blake (Gillingham), Jimmy (Maurer) and I – we are all really close. We all push each other to be better every day, and Preston has seamlessly fit into that. He brings in a lot of different ideas that we are all buying into. He also helps with the set pieces, along with the rest of the coaching staff.”
