HOUSTON DYNAMO HEAD COACH BEN OLSEN
On the match:
“The performance looked to me like a team that just clinched the playoffs, and that is enough sometimes for a few guys to be a few percentage points off of their best, which can lead to a frustrating game. If I am a fan of ours, I am a little frustrated with the pace of that game and the urgency and quality that we brought on the offensive end to get more chances. Defensively, the back four were good, and the center backs were great. We did not lose, and we grabbed another point in the season, but too many times teams below us are grabbing points here, and so we have to keep pushing. Now we have a tough test on the road against Seattle and Portland, and it will take much more than we had today to get results in those buildings. That is the message right now, and we will move on and regroup.”
On what kind of team this is:
“Our guys are kind of mercenaries. We have an older, experienced team, and I trust that when the lights come on, they will be there. But these games are critical to continue building this team to where we want to be, and the major test is on game day, working together to get better at the real speed against real competition when you are problem solving in real time. These are the 90-plus minutes that you really grow as a team, and in some ways, today, I wish there was more growth. But we will be tested in the next two games when we play two good opponents in two tough places, and we will see what we are made of. But I have no doubt that these guys will be ready when the lights come on.”
On Jonathan Bond’s performance:
“Jonathan Bond was amazing tonight. His positioning and feet were great. I am glad he is going to get some accolades tonight because he deserves it. Bond has been consistent for us all year, but his name does not get mentioned enough. I also thought our backline did well. Minnesota are not an easy team to keep off the board because they have a lot of firepower and are desperate to win. They started pushing at the end, and to hold them off the scoresheet was great. It has been a while since we got a shutout, so that was some positivity.”
HOUSTON DYNAMO GOALKEEPER JONATHAN BOND
On the result:
"We are a little bit frustrated with another draw. We are in a weird period where we are not losing, but we are not picking up as many points as we would like. On a positive note, it was good to keep a clean sheet and have a good defensive performance. Minnesota are a team that is throwing everything to try to get into the playoffs, and they were kind of a dangerous team to play with nothing to lose. The results is not what we wanted, but we now have to go play two difficult away games."
On having an experienced locker room:
"We have an experienced locker room, and everyone knows within themselves and within ourselves that we can play better, do better, apply ourselves a little bit better, and we have to hold ourselves to high standards. It first comes from training well, and maybe we just have to look at ourselves and say that we need to do more. We need to act like we are outside the playoffs or whatever it is that makes us feel a little bit more hungry. It is just about turning ties into wins, which is not the worst problem to have because we are very much in games. But we should have more points than we do. We are close to that top four and home field advantage in the playoffs, and there is not a lot we have to change."
On his consistency this season:
"I apply myself the exact same way every week. I have a formula that I go by and try and be as consistent as possible. Some things can happen that are out of my control, and I just have to come back and do it again. I feel good about this season so far, and I am in a good place mentally and feel confident and happy with my individual performances. Overall, the team has done well this season, but now we want to finish in the top four, which should be a minimum for us based off how the season has gone so far.”
On the upcoming matches in Seattle and Portland:
"Historically, in the five or six years that I have been playing in MLS, those Portland and Seattle road matches are really difficult places to go. Especially with two teams that are still very much playing for things and needing to win games. Then we finish the season with St. Louis at home, which is one of the best teams in the conference. We are in a bit of limbo with these ties, but if we win a couple of games before the end of the season, we will be going into the postseason with a good feeling with some momentum.”
