Three Players to Watch: Portland Timbers

When the Houston Dynamo FC return home to face the Portland Timbers, the visitors will arrive with several attacking threats capable of making the night difficult for Ben Olsen’s side. Here are three key Timbers players Houston should keep an eye on.

Diego Chara

The veteran missed Portland’s loss to Vancouver last week but looks like he could be back in the lineup Saturday. The 39-year-old is still not afraid of any tackle and will leave his marker on anyone in his path. Chara is also key in linking the Portland defense and attack and has been a leader of this Timbers side for so long. If he is able to play, he will make an impact, whether it’s breaking up Dynamo attacks or getting Portland into the Houston third of the field.

Antony

Out wide, Antony remains one of Portland’s most dangerous weapons. Dynamo fans will remember his impact against Ben Olsen’s side last season, when he scored a brace in the first meeting between the clubs in 2025. His pace and ability to attack defenders in transition make him a constant threat, meaning Houston will need to stay organized defensively and limit the space he finds on the wings.

Felipe Mora

Veteran striker Felipe Mora is another player Houston cannot afford to overlook. The Chilean forward has built a reputation as a relentless presence in the box, constantly pressing defenders and looking for opportunities to get on the scoresheet. Mora’s movement and experience make him a reliable focal point in Portland’s attack.

If Houston hopes to bounce back at home this Saturday, slowing down Bassett’s distribution, limiting Antony’s chances in transition, and keeping Mora quiet in front of goal will be key to securing a result at Shell Energy Stadium.
