The Houston Dynamo are coming off a busy week full of highs and lows, and now it’s all or nothing in this U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal against St. Louis CITY SC. While St. Louis has struggled at times in league play, just like Houston, they are still just a couple of wins away from competing for a trophy and will be highly motivated to get the job done. Here are three players Houston will need to keep an eye on.
Marcel Hartel
Hartel is one of the main attacking threats for St. Louis. The midfielder is dangerous in the final third, can create chances for others, and has the ability to score himself. Houston will need to stay organized defensively and limit the space he has around the box.
Christopher Durkin
Durkin brings energy and physicality to the midfield. He does a strong job winning balls back, breaking up plays, and helping St. Louis transition quickly. Houston will need to be sharp in possession and prepared for a physical battle in midfield.
Dante Polvara
Polvara adds size and work rate to the St. Louis defense. He covers ground well, competes hard in duels, and can help push the team forward in transition. Houston will need to match his intensity and stay disciplined in duels.
