(image via OneFootball.com)
With the likes of Germany, Portugal, and the Netherlands coming to Houston for this month’s World Cup, there are some big name players who will be playing right here in our city. This was a very difficult list to make, but here are the top 20 players who will be playing in Houston at the World Cup, numbers ten through one. Check out yesterday’s article for numbers twenty through eleven.

10. Cristiano Ronaldo, Forward, Portugal
Club: Al-Nassr
Age: 41
Ronaldo is now 41 but he is still a global megastar. He may not be as dominant as he once was, but he is still one of the best players in this tournament, especially with the supporting cast he has this year.
9. Bernardo Silva, Midfielder, Portugal
Club: Manchester City
Age: 31
He may be leaving Manchester City but Bernardo Silva won’t be unemployed long. Bernardo may be one of the most underrated players of this generation. He does so many things well and has won everywhere he goes.
8. Frenkie de Jong, Midfielder, Netherlands
Club: Barcelona
Age: 29
The Dutch midfielder is another do-it-all player in the center of the pitch. Whether at Barcelona or with the Netherlands, de Jong can dictate play like very few can in global football.
7. Nuno Mendes, Defender, Portugal
Club: Paris Saint-Germain
Age: 23
Nuno Mendes is the best left back in the world and he is still just 23-years-old. PSG have now won back-to-back Champions League titles and you’ll see why as we continue with this list. For Portugal, Nuno Mendes has a chance to be an even bigger star after this tournament.
6. Jamal Musiala, Midfielder, Germany
Club: Bayern Munich
Age: 23
Musiala suffered a bad injury at last summer’s Club World Cup but he’s healthy and ready to go for Germany this season. Another player that is just 23-years-old, Musiala has the skillset that very few attacking midfielders have. He can unlock a defense with the best of them.
5. João Neves, Midfielder, Portugal
Club: Paris Saint-Germain
Age: 21
Talking about 23-year-olds, Joao Neves makes them look old. At just 21, he is arguably the best complete midfielder in the world right now. The sky is the limit for Joao Neves and we are about to see that on display with this very good Portugal side.
4. Virgil van Dijk, Defender, Netherlands
Club: Liverpool
Age: 34
Van Dijk turns 35 next month but you would have little argument that he is still the best defender in the world. His aerial ability makes him a threat on set pieces, as well. This old dog still has plenty of tricks left.
3. Vitinha, Midfielder, Portugal
Club: Paris Saint-Germain
Age: 26
You could really put this top three in any order, in my opinion. Another one of the PSG boys, Vitinha may go unnoticed because he doesn’t do many flashy things, but he is about to step into what might be an even better midfield than he has on his club team.
2. Bruno Fernandes, Midfielder, Portugal
Club: Manchester United
Age: 31
Bruno is coming off one of the best seasons in Premier League history, breaking the record for most assists in a single season. And that was with a Manchester United team going through a bit of a rebuild. Now he gets to play with Silva, Neves, Mendes, Vitinha….
1. Joshua Kimmich, Midfielder, Germany
Club: Bayern Munich
Age: 31
Even at 31-years-old, Kimmich is still the all-around best player that will be coming to Houston this summer. His talent and versatility are what make him so special. Kimmich is an elite center midfielder and he’s elite at right back. If you have a chance to go to the Germany game, enjoy everything Kimmich does over 90 minutes.
