The second half of the Volt League season started this past weekend. MAFC went through the first half of the season undefeated and all clubs are taking aim to dethrone them. Others, like FC Seinfeld, are looking to change the trajectory of their season and start 2024 by grabbing three points.

Houston Rovers 2-5 FC Nightwatch

The Blue Owls tried to shake of the devastating loss against MAFC their last time out and now looked forward to taking their revenge out on Houston Rovers. The Rovers, who also were coming off a bad loss, regrouped and added a few pieces to take this second part of the season head on and hopefully be able to clinch a spot in the playoffs.

The Blue Owls got a huge opportunity in the 17th minute but goalkeeper Mark Montoya saved the pk and subsequently the rebound. The scoreless match wouldn’t last long because in the 20th minute, Michael Leonard recovered the ball and put in a cross that turned into a shot and went over and behind the goalkeeper. Medina doubled the lead after catching a rebound inside the box right before the half. Right when it seemed like FC Nightwatch would go to the break with a comfortable lead, Rovers were able to get one back off Miguel Esteban’s right foot. But wait there’s more. Rey Escobar from Rovers took a shot from outside the box and tied up the match in the dying seconds of the first half.

The second half started a little difficult for the Rovers. The referee decided that the goalkeeper committed a foul while attempting to block a shot from Gonzaga and was shown a red card, forcing his team to play a man down for the remainder of the second half. Medina got his second goal in the 57th minute an thed fourth for Nightwatch. Cain got one more in the dying seconds of the match to put the final nail in the coffin.

NIghtwatch will look to keep the streak going as they face Green Flag this upcoming Sunday. Rovers will look for the turn around against Inter SC.

MAFC 11-1 International SC

Another week, and another dominating performance by MAFC, this time against Inter SC.

Inter were first to strike, from a set piece. A nice corner into the heart of the box allowed Ambriz to redirect the ball into the back of the net in the 6th minute of play. A great collective counter attack gave MAFC the equalizer in the 14th minute. After that it was all MAFC.

Their second goal came in the 16th. The third in the 19th. Their fourth came as the half was coming to an end in the 45th. The second half started quick for MAFC, scoring in the 50th and then again in the 53th. The game would finish with 11 goals for MAFC in a dominating performance. It was another masterclass by the Lions and they will look to continue their streak against Ghosttown Saints this Sunday. On the other hand, Inter will look for the bounce back against Houston Rovers.

AC Juniors 8-0 Ghosttown Saints

What seemed to be a potential game of the week quickly turned out to be a very one sided game with Dani rising to the top and scoring four goals out of the eight that AC Juniors scored. Another player that also stood out from the current champs was Diego, who had a brace for the Reds. Captain Torres also got a goal from the pk spot, and maybe more importantly, with the help of Tony they were both able to shut down a dangerous attacking trio that the Saints fielded in this match. Montoya is another guy that always delivers when he is on the pitch and this time he contributed with a goal of his own.

This week, AC Juniors will be taking on Houstonians as they try to keep on climbing the table. The Saints will have a tough match up against MAFC, but a great opportunity to show what they are made of.

Green Flag FC 3-3 FC Seinfeld

Now THIS was the game of the night. FC Seinfeld brought in a revamped squad, riding high from their last match which gave them their first victory of the season. They were looking to keep their victorious streak going and this time they would face a strong team in Green Flag FC. The Goats started ofg strong with a banger from Memba in the first couple of minutes of the match. The second goal came in the 23rd minute from the feet of Rodriguez. After a rebound off a great counter attack, Lloyd found the ball on the corner of the box and blasted a rocket past the keeper to bring the scoreline to 3-0 in favor of the Goats. Looking back to previous games, it was hard to stay positive and believe Green Flag FC would be able to comeback into this match, but just as the first half was coming to a close, they found their first goal from a left footed shot from Solorzano at the top of the box. Going into the break, a 2 goal differential gave us, the spectators, a glimpse of hope for a promising second half. As soon as the second half started, they pushed for a second and it took less than a minute to get it. Iramategui was the one to score that second goal, and the game got even more interesting that what we thought. The 67th minute would bring the equalizer after Bui, the goalkeeper was late to a ball Makoni was chasing and committed a foul against the striker. Matthew turned that penalty kick into the third goal for Green Flag and it completed the comeback for the green team. The squads split te points but it left a sour taste in the mouths of the Goats as it seemed they had the match under control. The Goats now will have to face Frankfurt and Green Flag will have a tough match up against FC Night Watch.

Houstonians vs Frankfurt Athletic was postponed.

All in all, it was another wonderful night of soccer that ended with a really exciting game. Honestly, you never know how a soccer game is going to turn out and that’s the beauty of the sport. Nothing is said or done until the ref blows the whistle at the end of the 90 minutes. Teams take back the pitch again this Sunday and we hope that you guys can follow along LIVE on the Volt League’s YouTube channel
