Volt League Week 13 recap

Weeks 11 and 12 of Volt League play were postponed due to the low temperatures in Houston at the beginning of the year. Volt League resumed play this past week with week 13 to keep the season schedule on track. With that being said, let’s get to the matches!

FC Nightwatch 1-0 FC Seinfeld

The day started of with a a tough match up between an FC Nightwatch team that needed a win to keep hot on the trail of Greenflag and AC Juniors for second place. FC Seinfeld, on the other hand, tasted victory right before the end of the year and wanted to come into 2024 with all cylinders firing. The only goal of the match came after a short run by the talented #10 Isaiah, who then put a beautiful through ball to Quintanilla making a nice run into the box. With a simple touch over the goalkeeper, Quintanilla put Nightwatch on top and eventually gave the Blue Owls the 3 points.

This week, FC Nightwatch will open up the week against Frankfurt while FC Seinfeld will look to turn things around against Houstonians FC.

International SC 4-2 Frankfurt Athletic

Heredia opened up the scoring in the 20th minute for Inter after making a run to the near post to collect a low cross by Roger and put the ball in the back of the net with a subtle touch. When it seemed like Frankfurt would tie the match up, Castellanos doubled Inter’s lead in the 36th minute. After a great run and a even better finish, the forward helped kill the momentum of the opponents. The second half started off great for the team in green. Andy collected a rebound from the Inter goalkeeper and grabbed the first goal for his team in the 62nd minute. Only a few minutes later, in the 64th, Frankfurt tied up the match. Charles took a shot as he was entering the box to put the ball past the goalkeeper and get the equalizer. This made the last 25 minutes of the match an interesting one. In the 70th, Camur was left alone in the box and he headed the ball in to put Inter back on top. To finish up the match, Roger got a beautiful ball by William inside the box in the 74th minute. With one touch he beat the goalkeeper and taped the ball into the net to finish off the match.

Inter will be facing a difficult Green Flag FC, in what points to be one of the games of the week. Frankfurt will be facing FC Nightwatch, as they look to bounce back and get out of the bottom spot on the table.

Ghosttown Saints 1-3 Green Flag FC

One of the best matches of the night, two teams that looked to keep fighting for the top spots came in with all their fire power and only one point between them. The first goal of the match came from Briñez, but into his own goal, giving Green Flag the great start in the 6th minute. Only a few minutes later, the Saints found the equalizer after Ayoka sent a cross to the back post where Evan Lee was waiting for it to tap it in. After coming back from a pretty even first half, Omar got the second goal from Green Flag in the 58th minute. Kevin put a nice through ball over the top of the defense to leave Omar one on one against the goalkeeper, who he would beat. Only a few minutes later, in the 65th minute, Omar once again would score. This time he collected the ball in his own half and carried it downthe left flank, leaving 4 defenders behind to get the third and final goal for Green Flag.

Green Flag will next be taking on the renewed Inter to try and keep that second spot and stay chipping on the heels of MAFC. The Saints will try to recover from this fall when they take on Houston Rovers.

MAFC 4-0 Houstonians FC

The final match of the night was a showdown of local legends. MAFC, who remains undefeated with a winning tradition backing them. And if we talk about tradition, Houstonians FC has a long soccer history in the Bayou City.

Andrade opened up the count in the 26th minute with a strong shot in at the back post for MAFC after a quick pass back. Brian then doubled the lead for MAFC after another squared pass, this time from the right side of the field. By the 35th minute MAFC was up 2-0 and not lifting the foot off the gas. Houstonians tried to get back in the game but the MAFC defense didn’t let anything go through thier back line. Bryan got on the board once again in the 80th minute, this time from the penalty spot. To finish the night, Velasquez got the fourth and final goal for MAFC.

MAFC kept the clean sheet and remains undefeated this season. This week they will face the current champs AC Juniors and this match promises plenty of goals and maybe some surprises. Houstonians will be facing FC Seinfeld, who both look for 3 points once more.
