Before Week 4 gets underway, let’s take a look back at what happened in Week 3 in Volt League!

Inernational SC 2 - 9 Greenflag FC

Greenflag FC looked to bounce back from a 3-1 in their last match and they did not hold back one bit against a wounded Inter SC. Kevin opened up the count early in the first half and that would be the beginning of a great morning for Greenflag FC. Quickly, Greenflag kept piling up goals to take a 6-0 lead in the first half. The second half started with a nice goal from Angel and the Inter SC squad seemed like they would try and put on a fight. A few more goals from the Greens bulked up the scoreboard in their favor, and with four goals from the power forward Makoni and a brace from the winger Martinez, GreenFlag gained 3 more points to keep the fight for the top spots.

The next match will see Greenflag FC take on Ghosttown Saints FC and Inter SC go up against Frankfurt Athletic.

FC Seinfeld 2 - 2 Houstonians FC

The second game of the day brought us one of the most intense games of the week. Houstonians got on the board first with a great finish from the #10, Nelson Jr., from outside the box. Flores, #10 for FC Seinfeld, would find the equalizer right before the end of the half. These were the only goals of this half, and both teams would have to thank both Bui, the FC Seinfeld goalkeeper, and Martin, the goalkeeper for Houstonians who had a “Player of the Week” performance in keeping the scoreline that way. Going into the second half, Houstonians ended up with 10 men after a tough tackle from Gutierrez would receive a red card. Van Welij, the captain for the Goats, grabbed a goal for the second week in a row, after crashing in on the back post and tapping the ball into the goal to get his team ahead. Not long after, a cross came in from Tapia, and Reyes would calculate perfectly on the back post t ogive Houstonians the equalizer and rescue one point to keep adding to their tally.

Houstonians will have a tough battle next week as they will take on MAFC. FC Seinfeld will have a tough match of their own as the will face FC Night Watch.

AC Juniors 0-10 MAFC

MAFC masterclass, enough said. The academy team based out of north west Houston, showed up and showed out against the current champs. I should add that Juniors were missing some key players, but MAFC could not have cared less as every goal will eventually help in the goal differential race, in the chance one is needed. With two games under their belt, MAFC remains undefeated, beating both finalists from Season 4.

MAFC will take on Houstonians FC this week, which might be panning out to be a contender for “Match of the Week”. AC Juniors would be looking for a bounce back against Houston Rovers.

Frankfurt 0-1 FC Night Watch

A match that was fought quite literally until the last moment. The lone goal of the match came very late in the dying moments of the match. In the 92nd minute Isaiah, one of the key players for this FC Nightwatch team, made a deep run into Frankfurt territory and squared one back for #22 Henry. He crashed into the box to find the ball and put It in the back of the net for the win. The Blue Owls remain undefeated with a perfect record of 3 games played with 3 wins. They will look to keep their record intact this Sunday against FC Seinfeld. Frankfurt will be looking to get back to their winning ways against International SC.

Ghosttown Saints 5-2 Houston Rovers

Rovers struck first in the 19th minute of play when Alejandro Solorzano rose above everyone inside the box to guide a cross into the back of the net. Samuel Ayoka leveled things up for the Saints in the 39th minute, with a little help from the goalkeeper, who couldn’t control a shot from outside the box from the forward. Only a couple of minutes later, once again Ayoka was vital for a Saints goal. He drove a ball forward and left and array of Rovers players along the way to find P. Castellan in the box. He picked a spot in the goal away from the keeper and finished with a nice pass to the net for the second goal for the Saints. Once again, Ayoka took center stage in a Saints goal, this time in the second half. The defender, Alvarez, drove the ball forward, leaving a few players behind, and then found Ayoka who beautifully finished for the third goal for the men in black.

The other jewel for GTS, Sammy Ekp, also made his way unto the score sheet. Sammy got a pass from Castellan inside the box in the 81st minute, and after shaking off a defender, took a shot that ended up as the fourth goal of the match for them. Rovers got one back in the 85th, to make things a little more interesting towards the end of the match. Eduardo put in a great cross from the left side and Damian, #23, in his debut for Houston Rovers, anticipated the defense and got one over the goalkeeper and in the back of the net with a nice header. To finish off the night P. Castellan got his second of the match and put a nice bow on a great match for the Saints in the 87th minute.

Rovers will be facing the champs AC Juniors this Sunday, while Ghosttown Saints will be on primetime against Green Flag FC.
