Volt League rolled on to Match Week 4 this past weekend. Here’s a look at all the action that took place on the pitch.

FC Seinfeld 1-1 FC NightWatch

The bad news is that the Blue Owls did not win in their match against FC Seinfeld, the good news is that FC NightWatch were able to get a draw and remain undefeated after four weeks of play. The Goats struck first after capitalizing from a mistake from the goalkeeper as he tried to clear a ball from his box as two players rushed him. Magdiel from Seinfeld was able to block the clearance from the goalkeeper and the rebound would land at the feet of J. Rodriguez for an easy goal in the 24th minute. The equalizer came in the 65th minute when Henry Lopez recovered the ball in the midfield and carried the ball to set up C. Gonzaga on top of the box. He beautifully finished the play by curling one around the goalkeeper to rescue a point for the Blue Owls. FC NightWatch will look to keep their positive streak next week as they face Houstonians FC. The Goats will be facing International SC and will be still looking for their first win of the season as they now sit with two losses and two draws.

Houstonians FC 1-7 MAFC

Another match with another great showing by the Lions, as MAFC put 7 on the board against Houstonians FC. The first goal came off a nice solo run and finish by L. Cunemo in the 8th minute. The second would come shortly after, in the 10th minute, when B. Baich took a few touches inside the box to finish. A third goal came in the 17th, after a great cross. Cunemo received the ball at the back post and bagged his second of the afternoon. After leaving the goalkeeper in the dust and a defender on the floor, Cunemo got his hat trick at the half hour mark. The fifth goal for MAFC came from, of course, Cunemo in the 34th minute. The second half brought with it a couple of more goals and another one for Luis Cunemo, who in the 64th minute would get his 5th of the day. Houstonians FC got one back from the penalty spot. The MAFC goalkeeper blocked the penalty but in rebound fell to John Mikle who put it in the back of the net. The seventh and last goal for MAFC came from a corner kick when the MAFC attacker rose above everyone and was blocked by the goalkeeper on his first attempt at goal. He rose again and this time put it in the back of the net. MAFC still holds a perfect record at 3 played with 3 wins and will be taking on Rovers in their next match. Houstonians, on the other hand, will be looking for their first win as they face a strong FC NightWatch.

Frankfurt 2-3 International SC

International SC got their first three points of the season as they look to start to turn things around. Chavez hit a nice cross to the back post where Castellanos came in to beat the defender and the goalkeeper to put the ball in the back of the net and open up the scoring in the 15th minute for International SC. Frankfurt got the equalizer from a quick action play that ended with M. Fatoki in a one on one against the goalkeeper with a great finish and goal by the forward. E. Funez turned things around for Frankfurt with a well-executed solo run at the top of the box, leaving a man behind and finding a spot low and next to the post to make the score 2-1 in favor of the Eagles. Castellanos tied things up for Inter SC right before the half, in the 44th minute, with a shot from about 30 plus yard out. The ball took a slight deflection, which complicated things for the goalkeeper as he couldn’t hold on to the ball. Inter got their third, and game winner, in the 74th. The man with the brace, Castellanos, found Angel making the run on the left side and with a simple touch beat the goalkeeper to get a goal of his own and complete the comeback from a 2-1 deficit to a 3-2 victory. Inter will try and keep the momentum going as they face FC Seinfeld in Match Week 5. Frankfurt will be taking on Ghosttown Saints

Houston Rover 1-5 AC Juniors

The champs were back at it. With goals from captain Torres in the 11th minute, Alan Cruz in the 20th, and Morales in the 31st, the first half was a total domination for AC Juniors as they were trying to shake things off from a devastating loss in the previous week against MAFC. In the second half, Rey from Houston Rovers took a shot from outside the box. After a series of rebounds, Jorge Bali was able to get one through and get a goal in the 47th minute. The 56th minute brought the 4th goal for AC Juniors from the feet of Alan Cruz. In a weirdly strange situation when everyone on the field stood still thinking there was an offside from the forward, but the goal was given. Law 11 in the IFAB laws of the game states that there is no offside offense from a goal kick. The last goal of the night came form a great run by Sevilla of AC Juniors in the dying moments of the match. AC Juniors will look to continue their winning form as they will take on Green Flag FC, while Houston Rovers will be facing the always difficult MAFC.

GreenFlag FC 2-1 Ghosttown Saints

The last game of the night was a real fun one to watch. The Saints and Greens went head-to-head and fought tooth and nail for these three points. At the end of it all a Greenflag FC team filled with injuries came out victorious with a great defensive effort and an outstanding comeback. Ghosttown Saints were the first ones to strike, and it was no other than Samuel Ayoka. The forward got lucky when a failed pass bounced of the leg of a defender and left him in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper. After evading the keeper, Ayoka passed the ball into the net, getting on the scoreboard first in the 29th minute. As the first half ended, Solorzano, who had a tremendous night, took a shot of from outside box. With some help from one of the defenders acting as sight blockers against the goalkeeper, the ball was able to get through everyone and end up in the back of the net. The second half had a contender for goal of the week when Solorzano collected a pass back, took a touch, and fired a rocket into the back of the net to give Grennflag FC the winner in the 58th minute. Ghosttown Saints attempted for the rest of the game to get an equalizer but great goalkeeping by Aguilar and collective defending from the Greens gave them the three points at the end of the match. Next week will have GreenFlag FC taking on AC Juniors, shaping up to be the possible game of the week. Ghosttown Saints will be taking on the other green team, Frankfurt Athletic.
