Armas’ appointment as head coach of the KC Current came as a surprise to many. His managerial track record had been inconsistent, and he entered the role without prior experience in women’s soccer. Previous stints with the Colorado Rapids, Toronto FC, New York Red Bulls, and as an assistant coach with Manchester United were largely viewed as underwhelming.
That skepticism only grew after Kansas City opened the season with a win and then three consecutive losses, leading some supporters to question whether a change was already needed. Since the international break, however, the Current appear to have found their footing and turned the season around. Whether that resurgence can continue remains to be seen.
