Enemy Scouting Report - Racing Louisville

After suffering their first loss of the season, the Houston Dash have an opportunity to bounce back on Friday night at Shell Energy Stadium against Racing Louisville.

The Dash’s record against Racing Louisville has been fairly even. In 11 all-time meetings, both teams have won three matches, with five ending in draws. However, based on current form, this could be a matchup that leans in Houston’s favor this season.

Racing Louisville have struggled to start the year and currently sit 15th in the NWSL table. While they’ve managed four goals in their first three matches, defensive issues have been a concern. They’ve conceded six goals over that same stretch. Their slow start is not entirely surprising, given the absence of key players due to injuries and offseason departures.

Key Players

Emma Sears

The USWNT winger is on the rise, and the rest of the league is taking notice. She missed the last match, and her absence was clearly felt. Now in her third season, this looks poised to be a breakout year. Her pace, chance creation, and clinical finishing make her one of the most exciting wingers on this Louisville side, and in the league. With one goal and two assists in just two games, she’ll be a difficult player for the Dash to contain.

Taylor Flint

The versatile midfielder/defender is a cornerstone of this Louisville team. Through the first three matches, she has featured in three different roles: right midfield, defensive midfield, and center back. Despite the team’s early defensive struggles, Flint has been a stabilizing presence, holding the back line together with strong clearance numbers and key recoveries.

Kayla Fischer

Fischer scored at Shell Energy Stadium last season as Racing beat the Dash 2-1. The Racing striker has a goal and assist this season, both coming in a 2-2 draw against Washington Spirit. We saw Riley Tiernan able to find space in the Houston back line and score last week so the Dash will need to be aware of Fischer is off the ball and getting into the box.

Head Coach

Beverly Yanez

The reigning NWSL Coach of the Year faces a significant challenge this season. Now in her third year as head coach of Louisville, this may be her toughest campaign yet. Through 59 matches in charge, she has recorded 19 wins and 15 draws. With injuries and key absences already impacting the squad, her ability to adapt will be put to the test. How she navigates this stretch could determine whether Louisville can turn things around before falling too far behind.
