2025 in review
2025 was Gareis’ first full season after returning from maternity leave, following two injury-plagued years with the Dash. Her emergence as a regular starter early in the season came somewhat unexpectedly, but she quickly became a bright spot in the lineup—bringing pace and energy on the flanks, delivering crosses into the box, and tracking back to support the defense.
However, as her production tapered off and other players found their form, her minutes decreased, and she gradually became more of a depth option in the second half of the season.
Moment of the season
No one forgets their first goal—especially when it comes at a crucial moment to break an opponent’s unbeaten streak. Gareis’ first NWSL goal was exactly that. After a long run from Yazmeen Ryan, she delivered a cross into the box that found an open Gareis, who calmly slotted the ball into the upper right corner to give the Dash a vital win over the Kansas City Current and keep their playoff hopes alive.
Looking forward
This was the final year of Gareis’ contract and she is expected to become a free agent this offseason. Since joining the club through the 2022 draft, she has recorded one goal and five assists, with this past season standing out as her best as a professional. While she remains a fan favorite, it may be in the club’s best interest to pursue stronger reinforcements at her position.
