2026 in review
Klenke, a Houston native, signed with the Dash in January after spending her college career with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Leah quickly earned a starting spot during the preseason and would go on to become a focal anchor of the Dash’s backline.
She appeared in every single game, starting in all but one. Her partnership alongside veteran Paige Nielsen continued to grow as the season progressed. Klenke’s consistent performances in Houston also earned her a call-up to the U.S. U-23 Women’s National Team.
Moment of the season
Getting her first professional goal. In the second-to-last match of the regular season, Leah put together a well-rounded performance against Chicago, opening the scoring in what would become a 3-1 victory over the Stars.
Klenke was a solid presence in Houston’s backline all season, but if there was one memorable moment that stood out, it would be this one.
Looking forward
Klenke is under contract through the 2028 season. While the ultimate goal of reaching the playoffs went unfulfilled, the experience the talented rookie gained in her first year will only help prepare her for what comes next.
With the head coaching position still to be filled, Klenke figures to remain a key piece of Houston’s defensive future. The young defender has shown plenty of promise, and one would expect her to once again be a regular starter in 2027.
