Point to Prove
After a season filled with ups and downs, many fans will be disappointed with how things have unfolded for the Dash in 2026. However, there is reason for optimism when looking at the young core the club is building. While the result of this match won't change the Dash's season, it offers an opportunity to finish on a positive note and give fans a glimpse of what this group can accomplish heading into 2027. Adding another strong performance to build on that foundation could provide some momentum for next season.
Shake it Up
Although the result won't affect the Dash's playoff status, it could have significant implications for the postseason picture. With all of the NWSL games kicking off today at the same time, there will be plenty of scoreboard watching around the league. How Portland does in this match, picking up either three, one, or zero points, will impact a number of positions in the table.
Portland Has Plenty to Play For
Portland spent much of the second half of the season fighting to secure its place in the playoffs. Now that the Thorns have officially clinched a postseason berth, their focus shifts to earning as high of a seed as possible.
With a talented midfield capable of controlling possession and dictating the tempo, Portland presents a difficult challenge for the Dash. Sophia Wilson will be back from suspension, giving the Thorns a dynamic option in the attack. Houston will need a strong performance on both sides of the ball to disrupt the Thorns and finish the season with a result.
