HOUSTON DASH HEAD COACH FABRICE GAUTRAT
On the match:
"I want to congratulate the entire club and the team. I felt like we were united in so many different ways, and I thought it was an absolutely dominant performance. So, it's good to see it also on the score sheet. If you look at how the game started, obviously we get that PK early, we miss it, but we still build that resilient piece, right? We still grew into the game. And I thought in the second half, we definitely took over. So, really pleased.”
On the team’s attitude:
“We talk a lot about who we are, we have some core standards, whether it's how we communicate, how we play with intensity, how we empty the tank and those, those (standards) are who we are. It's regardless of the score line. What you saw was us just showing who we are, not doing something out of character, but actually fulfilling who we are and who we're meant to be. So, in terms of that, I don't expect anything less from that unity, from that mentality to keep growing.”
On the team atmosphere and improving teammwork:
“I can say so many different things, but I will just say this, what we've been starting to build. You're starting to see a group that is really connected and really united, and everyone understands what it takes to start on this team, what it takes to be in the 20 and you're seeing kind of the fruit of that. You're also seeing a group, I felt the group is leading themselves in an amazing way, which is a reflection of a lot of work we're doing behind the scenes. You know, we brought someone in who has been really exciting and helping our leaders grow, and that's been huge for us. You're starting to see this group that takes more and more ownership of this team.”
HOUSTON DASH DEFENDER LEAH KLENKE
On the win:
"It was a great collective effort from all of us. We showed real grit and we truly worked together and fought hard. We pressed well and created some great goals, and overall, we played really well as a team. But this is only the beginning, we still have a lot of work ahead of us and plenty more to look forward to.”
On being a Houston native and playing at Shell Energy Stadium:
“I’m filled with so much gratitude, and I’m truly thankful to be back home. It was amazing not only to see my family, especially my grandparents, who traveled here to support me but also to feel the energy from all the Houston fans cheering for us and the team. I even saw girls from my old club, as well as some I’ve coached, which meant a lot to me. Being back home and playing for Houston is incredibly special. It reminds me that I’m not just playing for myself, I’m playing for this entire city and for my team. I’m really grateful for that support.”
On the team camaraderie:
“Together, we’re focused on building camaraderie and staying connected not just on the field, but off the field as well. We spend time together, have fun, and genuinely enjoy each other’s company. That sense of unity playing for one another rather than ourselves has made a big difference for us both on and off the field.”
HOUSTON DASH MIDFIELDER KIKI VAN ZANTEN
On the win:
“It was such a great team win. We executed our game plan perfectly. Everybody played so well, we did their jobs and then some. We were covering for each other and making great tackles. It was just a 10 out of 10 performance today.
On the enthusiasm shown by the team:
“We have a lot of belief in the system that we play and belief in each other. We did a lot of work internally with our relationships and strengthen those relationships. We have a lot of trust for each other, and we know that if things don't go our way, missed PK, a goal gets called back, we know that we're still going to create more chances. So, I think that optimism just kind of radiated through our team today, and we knew that we were going to come away with the win.”
On the roster changes and new players:
“The rookies (Leah Klenke, Kat Rader, Kate Faasse, Linda Ullmark and Cate Hardin) have come in and have done exceptional. They fit into our system so well, ready for feedback, ready to learn and just bring a great attitude to training. Changes happen within a team all the time, and you just got to roll with the punches and believe in the system and trust the people that are around you to do the job. We did just that today.”
On being a fan favorite and her message to the fans:
“The fans need to keep coming back. We hear you guys (the fans) and we appreciate you guys. It's always nice to make a great tackle or have a good chance and hear the crowd cheering for you. So, we really, really do appreciate our fans, and we can see the number increasing each year. Just keep coming back. Houston is a tough place to play at with the heat and adding on to a crowd cheering in your face like they did today, nobody really wants to play against us here, and we think the fans can add to that.”
