The Houston Dash suffered their second loss of the season, losing 1-0 to the North Carolina Courage on Saturday. Let’s take a look at how everyone performed.
Starters
Jane Campbell - 8.5
Campbell put in a Player of the Match performance, unfortunately in a losing cause. She made 7 saves and kept the Dash in the game as North Carolina piled on pressure early.
Lisa Boattin - 6.5
Boattin made her first start of the season, playing 58 minutes. She made six defensive contributions and hit the bar on a shot from distance.
Leah Klenke - 7
Klenke showed ver versatility, sliding over to center back for this match. She looked very comortable in the role, proving she can be an asset anywhere on the back line.
Paige Nielsen - 7.5
Nielsen was able to get into the attack a lot more in this match. She had 16 passes into the final third, that is on top of her 11 recoveries on defense.
Avery Patterson - 8
Patterson got a lot more involved in the attack in this match. She completed 45 of her 50 passes and created three chances.
Kat Rader - 6
Rader was a lot quieter in this match, even though she created two chances and took three shots. She’s still a rookie and the fact that this was a “down performance” from her says a lot about her talent.
Danielle Colaprico - 7.5
The Dash are very composed in the middle because of Colaprico. She’s probably the first or second name on the team sheet every week.
Maggie Graham - 6.5
Graham’s passing improved in this game and she was all over the field from box to box. Houston will want a little more from her in the attack.
Linda Ullmark - 6
Like Rader, Ullmark was much quieter in this match. There’s a lot on the shoulder of the recently turned 20-year-old but she doesn’t look out of place at all.
Kiki Van Zanten - 6
Van Zanten came into the week leading the NWSL in goals but she only managed one shot in this match. She had just four touches in the opposition box, an indicator of how the Dash offense struggled and couldn’t find a goal.
Kate Faasse - 6.5
Faasse returned from injury and went right back into the starting lineup with the injury to Makenzy Robbe. Faasse played 58 minutes and had just 14 touches.
Substitutes
Malia Berkely - 6
It was a bit of a surprise not seeing Berkely in the starting lineup but she came in to play more than 30 minutes. She got involved more offensively than we’ve seen, especially when North Carolina went down to ten players.
Clarissa Larisey - 6
Gautrat praised Larisey’s 30-plus minutes but her scoring drought is a big concern. Even with the Courage down to ten, Larisey didn’t register any shots.
Messiah Bright and Cate Hardin - N/A
Both players came on late in the match. Bright did have a golden chance to equalize in stoppage time but she couldn’t get her header on target.
Head Coach
Fabrice Gautrat - 6
North Carolina came out on the front foot and the Dash weathered the storm and adjusted well. They just weren’t ever to find an equalizer. If Van Zanten isn’t scoring, the Dash will need others to step up, especially with Robbe now on SEI.
