Three Players to Watch: Seattle Reign FC

The Houston Dash finish out their three-match home stand tomorrow night at Shell Energy Stadium. Here are three Seattle Reign players to keep an eye on in the match.
Sofia Huerta
The former USWNT and Dash fullback is off to an excellent start this season. Her experience along the backline has been crucial for a young defensive core, as well for goalkeeper Claudia Dickey behind them. Huerta’s versatility on both ends of the field has helped keep the team competitive and transition play effectively. If the Dash are looking to limit Seattle, she’s a player they’ll need to keep a close eye on whenever she’s on the ball.
Maddie Mercado
The young forward has stepped into a significant role. With Jordyn Huitema’s departure and Lynn Biyendolo on maternity leave, Mercado has become a focal point of the attack. She’s recorded two goals in six matches, not a blazing start statistically, but she continues to make a meaningful impact. It’s also worth noting her stint last season with USL’s Carolina Ascent FC, where she tallied four goals and an assist in a short loan spell.
Sam Meza
One of the most in-form players on the squad, Meza has made a strong impression since joining Seattle following a season with Dallas Trinity FC. Her impact in midfield has been immediate, particularly through her ball retention, defensive work, and ability to win duels. She brings much-needed stability, but also isn’t shy about pushing forward, creating chances, and taking shots when opportunities arise.
