Three Players to Watch: Angel City FC

The Houston Dash face their toughest test yet on Friday as they take on a red-hot Angel City side. Like Houston, Angel City has opened the season with back-to-back wins but they’ve done it in dominant fashion. If the Dash want a result, containing these three players will be key.
Sveindís Jónsdóttir
Jónsdóttir has exploded out of the gate with two goals and two assists, quickly becoming one of Angel City’s most dangerous weapons. The Icelandic international thrives in wide areas, using her pace and physicality to stretch defenses and create mismatches in one-on-one situations. She’s direct, loves to cut inside onto her stronger foot, and isn’t afraid to shoot from distance. For Houston, discipline in wide defending will be crucial, fullbacks must stay compact and avoid giving her space to build momentum down the flank.
Kennedy Fuller
At just 19 years old, Fuller is already showing signs of stardom. With a goal and two assists in the opening games, she’s been a creative spark in the final third. Fuller operates with confidence beyond her years, comfortable drifting between lines, picking out key passes, and combining quickly in tight spaces. She’s the type of player who can unlock a defense with a single moment of quality. The Dash midfield will need to stay tight and organized, limiting her time on the ball and closing passing lanes before she can dictate play.
Ary Borges
Borges brings balance to Angel City’s midfield, anchoring the defensive structure while still contributing going forward. She already has a goal and an assist, highlighting her ability to join the attack at the right moments. Borges reads the game well, breaks up plays, and transitions quickly from defense to offense. Houston will need to be sharp in possession, as any careless turnovers in midfield could allow Borges to spring dangerous counters or step into space herself.
