Houston Dynamo 2 wrapped up their four-game homestand to start the season with a convincing 2-0 win against rivals North Texas SC. Dynamo Dos have yet to allow a goal this season, and their offense delivered another good performance.
Houston fielded a rotated lineup featuring Diego Gonzalez in the midfield, Jahmani Bell behind the striker, and Noah Betancourt at the attacking right back position.
The first half was dominated by Houston, but no goals came from all their momentum. The second half provided much more viewing pleasure for the fans at SaberCats Stadium. Houston were quicker in possession, the passing was crisp, and North Texas were never comfortable.
Gonzalez struck first in the 48th minute. Cutting inside from the left side of the pitch, he struck the ball towards North Texas goalkeeper Erykk Dymora, but the shotstopper was unable to get his hands behind the ball, allowing it to pass through his legs and give the home side the lead.
Five minutes later, Gilberto Rivera put Houston in full control of the derby. He tightly dribbled the ball into the box, and struck the ball with his left foot to the near post.
In the 81st minute, Rivera had the opportunity to extend Dos’ lead, as Houston were awarded a penalty. Unfortunately for him, his shot was saved. Rivera’s miss didn’t impact the result of the match as the Dynamo secured their fourth victory to start off their MLS NEXT Pro campaign.
Jeremy Hurdle’s squad will now spend some time away from the confines of SaberCats Stadium, with their first away match of the season, and first of 10 straight on the road. They’ll face off against Austin FC II on April 12 at Parmer Field. The game is set to start at 7:30 PM, and fans can tune in to watch the game through either YouTube or the OneFootball app.
