Three things we learned: Houston Dynamo at FC Dallas

The 10-man Houston Dynamo lost 4-3 to in-state rivals FC Dallas this weekend. After each game this season, we’re going to bring you three things we learned from the match. Here is our next edition after watching the Dynamo fall in Frisco.

The Dynamo Attack is Scary

The Dynamo found themselves down 2-0 after just 14 minutes after two goals from Logan Farrington. Up to that point, the Dynamo looked awful on both offense and defense, and it looked like it would be a long night in Dallas. But in just four minutes, the Dynamo scored three goals to take back the lead, the joint-second fastest 3-goal-burst scored in MLS history. Brazilian winger Guilherme was involved in all three goals, bringing his season tally to seven goals/assists in just four games. It’s been a while since the Dynamo have had an attack that can pull feats like this off.

The Red Cards Have to Stop

Tied at 3-3 in the 68th minute, the last thing the Dynamo needed was their 4th red card of their season. But after Erik Sviatchenko blocked off Logan Farrington on a fast break, the veteran Dane was given his marching orders. After Sviatchenko was sent off, the Dynamo only managed one more shot on target, falling behind in the 86th minute off a Petar Musa goal. The Dynamo’s constant red cards have been a serious issue this season, and will need to be fixed for the Dynamo to be a competitive team.

Center Back Depth is Still Needed

With the primary transfer window closing on Thursday, it’s clear the Dynamo need to bolster their depth at the back. Both Erik Sviatchenko and Antonio Carlos looked poor last week. Without the much quicker and agile Lucas Halter at the back, the Dynamo defense looked sluggish and slow. With the only other natural center backs on the roster being Agustin Resch and Felipe Andrade, the Dynamo will need more center backs to make their back-3 system work.
