Dynamo 2sday: Dos finish regular season, await playoff opponent

In their final regular season game of 2026, Houston Dynamo 2 were unable to generate momentum ahead of their playoff run, as they lost 3-2 against Sporting KC II. Although the second half of the season was tough, DynaDos still wrapped up the year with a fourth-place finish, a playoff berth, and 52 points, a single-team record.
Houston’s shape was more defined against Kansas City compared to previous games; they lined up in a 4-3-3 with Mattheo Dimareli and Samir Mohammad on the wings with Austin Brummett in the middle. D’Alessandro Herrera dropped into midfield alongside Dohmann and Gilberto Rivera to form a group of three.
Kansas City opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a goal from Zamir Loyo Reynaga. It was a tidy finish from just outside the box with his left foot. Houston got right back in the game thanks to Austin Brummett. His goal came at the end of the first half, and Gilberto Rivera played a big part in it, delivering a tight pass into Brummett’s feet. The SuperDraft pick slotted the ball into the bottom left corner.
In the 58th minute, Missael Rodriguez put the visitors back in front after a run from Shane Donovan broke through Houston’s defensive line, and all he had to do then was pass it to Rodriguez who had a wide open net. Brummett doubled his tally on the day in the 73rd minute with a close-up shot from the left side of the six-yard box to once again pull Dynamo 2 level.
The game shifted in the 83rd minute when Gabriel William, who was making his DynaDos debut, was sent off after receiving his second yellow card. Kansas City took advantage in the 87th minute as Tega Ikoba scored after Houston goalkeeper Roman Kerimov couldn’t clear a low cross away from goal. The away side picked up the win, 3-2.
