The Houston Dynamo are looking to end a winless streak against the Sounders that goes back ten matches as they welcome Seattle to Shell Energy Stadium tonight. The Dynamo are coming off of a 4-1 win midweek against Phoenix Rising FC in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. Seattle also won their last match 4-1, beating St. Louis CITY SC by that score last weekend.

Honoring the Legends

Tonight’s match will also be a celebration of 20 years for the Houston Dynamo. The team moved from San Jose all those years ago and immediately won two MLS Cups with some players who quickly became legends in Houston. A lot of those guys will be back tonight, including Brian Ching, Stuart Holden, Dwayne De Rosario, Brad Davis, and many more. If you’re going to the game tonight, make sure you take a walk around the concourse and keep your eyes open, you might be surprised who you run into.

It’s Been A While

As we mentioned earlier, the Dynamo have not beaten the Sounders in their last nine meetings. You have to go back to 2021 for the last time Houston picked up a victory over Seattle. Tab Ramos was the Dynamo head coach back then and Maxi Urruti and Darwin Quintero scored for Houston in a 2-1 win. Feels like forever ago, doesn’t it? Even though that was just four years ago, the Dynamo feel like a completely different club. Seattle, though? They just keep winning year in and year out, which makes this match up always a difficult one.

Seattle Scaries

Even with the winless streak we talked about, the Dynamo have three draws in the their last three matches, including a 0-0 in Seattle earlier this season and two penalty kick shootout losses in last year’s playoffs. The Sounders lost some pieces from last season but they are doing what they always do. New signing Ryan Kent has burst onto the scene in MLS, and with Pedro de la Vega gives Seattle two dynamic wingers, even with Jordan Morris and Paul Arriola out. The Sounders’ defense is also stout this year, conceding just 13 goals this season. And let’s not forget to mention Paul Rothrock who seems to score against the Dynamo every time they play.

Houston DynamoOut: Lawrence Ennali (knee), Nelson Quinones (knee), Andrew Tarbell (knee), Franco Escobar (suspension); Questionable: Jimmy Maurer (lower body), Duane Holmes (lower leg), Erik Sviatchenko (lower body)

Seattle Sounders FC Out: Paul Arriola (knee), Jordan Morris (hamstring), Jackson Ragen (hamstring)
