The Houston Dynamo are back from the international break, looking to pick up points at home against visiting CF Montreal. The Dynamo are coming off a 3-1 loss at Shell Energy Stadium in their last match two weeks ago. Montreal have struggled this season, with just one win in league play, and most recently lost 3-0 to the New England Revolution.

Much Needed Rest

The Dynamo haven’t played since that loss to Kansas City two weeks ago, and they badly needed the time off. After playing 9 games in the month of May, the players just looked exhausted. Now with a chance to reset as they head in to June, Houston has been gifted what seems to be an easy fixture after the break. They need to take advantage of this, with pep back in their step, and get the summer off to a good start.

Replacing Jack

Jack McGlynn is now away with the US Men’s National Team for the Gold Cup and his absence leaves a big hole in the Dynamo lineup. Head coach Ben Olsen spoke on Friday how there is no like-for-like replacement for McGlynn on this roster, but they do have a number of options. With Ondrej Lingr a likely starter, that leaves players like Sebastian Kowalczyk, Amine Bassi, Lawrence Ennali, and Duane Holmes to fill in for the Dynamo’s front three. Holmes looked to be the player brought in for that spot originally, before McGlynn moved higher up the field and made it his own. Whoever gets the start tonight will have big shoes to fill.

Oy Vey

To say CF Montreal have been bad this season would be putting it mildly. They were eliminated from the Canadian Championship (their version of the US Open Cup) by a lower level team and have won just once in 17 MLS matches. To make things worse, DP striker Giacomo Vrioni is suspended tonight and they have four players out on international duty with another four out injured. Anything can happen in Major League Soccer but this is about as must-win a game there could be for the Dynamo.

Houston Dynamo FCOut: Jack McGlynn (international duty), Nelson Quiñones (knee), Andrew Tarbell (knee); Questionable: Daniel Steres (lower body), Erik Sviatchenko (lower body)

CF Montreal Out: Giacomo Vrioni (suspension), Olger Escobar (international duty), Nathan Saliba (international duty), Dante Sealy (international duty), Joel Waterman (international duty), Bryce Duke (lower body), Fabian Herbers (ankle), Dominic Iankov (groin), Hennadii Synchuk (lower body)
