Former Houston Dynamo captain Héctor Herrera is set for a shocking return to the Houston Dynamo, according to a report from Cesar Luis Merlo. MLS Insider Tom Bogert is also reporting that Herrera is returning.
Herrera left Major League Soccer and the Dynamo after his option was declined following the 2024 season. Herrera joined Mexican club Toluca where he won two LigaMX championships, a Campeon de Campeones title, and a Campeones Cup. The former Mexican international played just 347 minutes in the 2025 Apertura in 16 matches, scoring one goal.
Herrera’s final match for the Dynamo was marred by his spitting at a referee that got him sent off in a playoff match against Seattle. Herrera received a three match suspension for the incident. He served a suspension with Toluca for the incident but it is unknown if Major League Soccer will still give out any punishment when he returns.
We will have more on this story as it develops.
