The Houston Dynamo have announced the signing of Brazilian center back Lucas Halter through the 2029-30 season. The 25-year-old center back joins from Botafogo in Brazil. He spent last season on loan at fellow Brazilian club Vitoria.
“Lucas arrives as a proven winner and respected leader, having anchored title-winning teams at top clubs in South America,” said President of Soccer Pat Onstad. “As a centerpiece of three title-winning squads, he has shown the ability to anchor a backline and exhibit the kind of leadership and mentality we are committed to bringing into Houston. We are thrilled to welcome him to the Dynamo and confident he will raise the standard both on and off the field as we continue building a team ready to compete for trophies.”
Halter has spent his career in Brazil playing with Atheltico Paranaense, Goaias, Botafogo, and Vitoria. He was wanted, early in his career, by European giants like Manchester City, Roma, and Atletico Madrid.
Halter fills a big need for the Dynamo at center back. Ethan Bartlow, Femi Awodesu, Damion Lowe, and Franco Escobar are all no longer with the club and Erik Sviatchenko and Antonio Carlos battled injuries throughout last season. At just 25 years old, Halter gives the Dynamo some youth at the position along with their two veterans in Sviatchenko and Antonio Carlos.
