2025 in review
The Houston Dynamo made a big splash to acquire McGlynn, a young, rising star for the Philadelphia Union last offseason. Great expectations followed McGlynn to Houston and he met them. Ben Olsen started with McGlynn deeper in midfield but moved him to the right midfield role and he excelled, able to showcase his creative talent and magical left foot.
McGlynn was one of the best players in Major League Soccer in shot-creating actions and was in the 99th percentile of touches, passes attempted, and progressive passes. There were long stretches of the 2025 season where McGlynn basically was the Dynamo offense. The 22-year-old missed the last few matches of the season after suffering a foot injury and having to have surgery.
Moment of the season
It was just a penalty kick in a 1-1 draw against the Philadelphia Union in July but for McGlynn it had to be one of the best moments of his career. After the Union scored early, and did McGlynn’s celebration, the youngster stepped to the penalty spot against the team he grew up in and that sold him just months earlier. McGlynn scored the penalty and proceeded to kiss the Dynamo badge.
Looking forward
McGlynn is the piece that this Dynamo team will build around going into 2026. That is, unless their is an offer from Europe that Houston can’t turn down, a la Micael last offseason. The other question around McGlynn is his foot inury and the surgery he had. What was the extent of his injury? How long will he be sidelined? We don’t know the answers to these yet but for Dynamo fans, the hope is McGlynn is ready to go when the 2026 season begins and once again be the driving force behind the Houston offense.
