2025 in review

Jonathan Bond joined the Houston Dynamo early in the 2025 season and immediately provided a calming, veteran presence in goal after a rash of injuries at the position. He stood out with some highlight saves and brought confidence to a back line that struggled with consistency throughout the campaign. His size and experience helped him command the penalty area well, and he adapted quickly to the team’s style of playing from the back.

Despite his efforts, the Dynamo still conceded more goals than expected, and some of the advanced metrics suggested there was room for improvement in overall shot-stopping consistency. Even so, Bond delivered solid performances, earned multiple clean sheets, and showed the poise of a seasoned professional. With a full preseason ahead and a more settled defense, he has the potential to elevate his impact even further next year.

Moment of the season

Bond’s defining moment came in the Texas Derby against FC Dallas. With the game still tight, a long-range strike from midfield seemed certain to dip under the bar, but Bond reacted brilliantly—racing back and tipping it just over. It was a momentum-shifting save that showcased his calm under pressure and reminded everyone why the Dynamo turned to him this season: reliable, composed, and clutch when it mattered most.

Looking forward

Looking ahead, Jonathan Bond is set to remain in the full-time starting role in 2026. He stepped in after Andrew Tarbell’s injury, and with Tarbell’s future at the club uncertain, the position is now firmly his to lose. Bond is under contract through 2026 with a club option for 2027, giving both him and the Dynamo stability moving forward. With a full preseason and growing chemistry with the back line, he has the chance to establish himself as a key piece of the team’s core.
