2025 in review

Pablo Ortiz joined the Houston Dynamo on loan from DAC 1904 early in the season to help fill the void left by Micael’s departure. With strong physical traits and a profile similar to the Brazilian center back, Ortiz appeared to be a like-for-like replacement on paper. However, his transition into MLS was far from smooth.

While Ortiz showed flashes of potential, his performances were often marked by inconsistency and uncertainty. Defensively, he struggled with decision-making, sometimes hesitating or overcommitting in dangerous areas. These lapses put his teammates under pressure and occasionally led to costly mistakes. Simply put, there were moments when you didn’t quite know what you were going to get from him whenever the ball came his way.

Moment of the season

Ortiz’s best moment came during his first MLS regular-season start against Minnesota United. In that match, he not only held his own defensively but also scored a crucial goal, helping the Dynamo secure a 2–0 victory. It was a highlight in an otherwise uneven season and a glimpse of the impact he could make when confident and composed.

Looking forward

Ortiz’s loan expired at the end of the season, and the Dynamo are currently in discussions with him and his representatives about a potential return. With only two center backs currently under contract for 2026, a reunion is possible if the club can negotiate a team-friendly deal. Should he return, Ortiz would likely serve as a depth option — someone who can provide cover, but he still needs to refine his game before being trusted as a consistent starter.
