2025 in review
Sergio Santos joined the Houston Dynamo late in the season as a free agent signing, intended to strengthen the attack and spark a late playoff push. The experienced forward brought a strong résumé and MLS familiarity, but injuries—an all-too-common theme for the club in 2025—limited his impact.
Santos appeared in only two matches, totaling just 16 minutes of action. His physicality and movement showed flashes of what he could offer, but fitness setbacks kept him from truly integrating into Ben Olsen’s system or finding rhythm with the attacking unit.
Moment of the season
Despite limited playing time, Sergio made his mark in his final appearance of the year against San Diego, scoring a late equalizer to bring the match level at 2-2. Unfortunately, the Dynamo couldn’t hold on and ultimately fell 4-2, but Santos’ goal provided a brief spark and a glimpse of the quality that once made him one of the league’s most dynamic forwards.
Looking forward
Houston declined Santos’ 2026 contract option, signaling the end of his short stint with the club. With a salary approaching $1 million and recurring injury concerns, the Dynamo opted to move in a younger, more durable direction. Still, at 31 years old, Sergio’s experience and proven ability in MLS should draw interest from clubs seeking veteran attacking depth.
