2025 in review

Toyosi Olusanya joined the Houston Dynamo with expectations of injecting pace and goal-scoring prowess into the attack following the midseason departure of Ibrahim Aliyu to Columbus Crew. However, the English forward never truly settled in or found his footing within Ben Olsen’s system. Whether due to tactical fit, lack of confidence from the coaching staff, or simply struggling to adapt, Toyosi’s opportunities were few and far between.

Olusanya appeared in only six MLS regular-season matches and earned his lone start in the U.S. Open Cup defeat against Austin FC. His speed was evident, and his style of play seemed well-suited for the “smash-and-grab” counterattacking approach Olsen sometimes deploys on the road, but Toyosi never managed to make a consistent impact. The chemistry needed to connect on timed runs behind defenses simply never materialized.

Ultimately, limited production and playing time led to Toyosi being loaned back to England, joining Doncaster Rovers for the remainder of the 2025 season.

Moment of the season

Toyosi’s best moment in a Dynamo shirt came early in the season against FC Dallas. Coming off the bench, he used his pace to stretch the defense and assisted Griffin Dorsey’s goal, sealing a 2-0 victory over Houston’s in-state rivals. It was a brief but memorable glimpse of what he could offer when given space to exploit.

Looking forward

Olusanya remains under contract with the Houston Dynamo through the summer of 2026, but his future with the club appears uncertain. Currently on loan at Doncaster Rovers in League One, he has yet to register a goal or assist in 11 appearances. If his form doesn’t improve, both parties may look to part ways before the 2026 MLS season. For now, Toyosi’s time in Houston seems all but over—a promising idea that never quite clicked on the field.
