Houston Dynamo Acquire South African Striker Lyle Foster

The Houston Dynamo have announced the signing of South African striker Lyle Foster on loan from Burnley FC. Foster, who turns 26-years-old today, will join the Dynamo on loan through next summer. Houston will have an option to buy him at that point, with that fee reportedly at $7 million. Foster will not occupy a Designated Player spot for the Dynamo this season.

“Lyle presents another powerful, mobile forward to our attacking group,” said Dynamo President of Soccer Pat Onstad. “He threatens the space behind the back line, links play well and brings the work rate and intensity that we demand without the ball. Lyle’s experience in the Premier League and on the international stage will strengthen our group, and we are excited to welcome him to Houston as we prepare for a strong finish to the season.”

Foster has been at Burnley since 2022. He scored 3 goals and added 2 assists last season when the Clarets were in the English Premier League. He has 11 goals and 10 assists in 89 appearances for Burnley across the Premier League and Championship. Before joining Burnley, Foster spent time at Orlando Pirates, Monaco, Cercle Brugge, Vitoria Guimaraes, and Westerlo.

A South Africa international, Foster was a part of the Bafana Bafana squad at this summer’s World Cup. He played in just one game. He scored twice in last winter’s African Cup of Nations, the latter being the 10th goal for his nation. Foster has 32 caps for South Africa.

Foster will likely take over as the Dynamo’s starting number nine. With Ezequiel Ponce now gone and Duncan McGuire yet to make much of an impact, Foster will be given the chance to become Houston’s focal point in the attack, alongside Guilherme. Although they’re second place in the MLS Western Conference, the Dynamo have yet to have a league goal scored by a striker. Foster will hope to change that.
